Benefits of a warm rinse?

When I do laundry, I do a hot wash and warm rinse. I don’t know why I do this, I just do.

My wife always yells at me saying that a warm rinse is a waste that doesn’t do anything. She always uses a cold rinse.

So my question is, is there any benefit to a warm rinse when doing laundry? If not, why do they give you the option?
Much thanks!

Well, most things are more soluble at warmer temperatures, so a warm rinse ought to remove a greater proportion of any residues, in practice though, it might not make any difference because the amount of residue dissolved by cold water may be more than enough.

The cite escapes me but a laundry wash does not completely clean clothes. Freshly clean clothes will still contain dirt, fecal matter (Are you kidding me? Nope!, that while removed during the wash does not get rinsed away but settles back into the clothes.

FWIW, a cold rinse just saves a wee bit on energy costs.

Duckster, I believe those studies were produced by the front-loader people, who want to stress how much cleaner clothes are after being washed with a front-loader.

I don’t know whether he would qualify as a knowledgeable source, but a friend of mine used to own an appliance store, and he told me that the biggest proponents of warm rinses are utility companies…
