Bill Clinton was center-left and that’s how he governed. Claims that BC is center-right spring from the same source as similar claims about HRC.

No, as F-P points out, he was center-left (by American standards). The GOP take over of Congress made it look like he was closer to the right than he was, because he was good at taking credit for things he didn’t do - balancing the budget*, welfare reform**, etc.

*No, Clinton was not responsible for balancing the budget. His first act upon gaining the White House, when he and the Dems controlled Congress, was to increase the deficit, not decrease it, and after Gingrich and the GOP took over Congress Clinton’s budgets had $200 billion deficits as far as the eye could see. You don’t need a cite.
**No, he didn’t do that either. He vetoed the bill twice, and then signed it with only cosmetic changes because he saw that it was going to pass over his veto and he wanted to claim credit for it.
