Bernse cleans his basement, treasures await!

Hey, bernse, I’m a “wimmin” and I am a collector too! I collect the National Geographic, and have well over a thousand issues, with maps, all the way back to 1914.

Any Dopers out there got any earlier issues they want to part with?:stuck_out_tongue:

I think Mrs. Bernse would divorce me if I had that many, Baker. The decade or so that I had probably weighed about 100lbs! Either that, or I’d get a hernia moving the boxes containing them!

bernse, you really are Jim’s long-lost twin brother. He also has plastic plane models, along with some odd spaceships (including a very nice Millenium Falcon). We have his beautiful Avro Arrow model flying from our living room ceiling.

Maybe! I’ve got a 1/48 Arrow model too, I just haven’t put it together yet! (I haven’t heard too many good things about the kit).

So, does this mean I’ll get birthday and Christmas presents from you two now?

As far as I know (from hearing the various comments as he was making it), the kit isn’t particularly good. Jim’s still looking for a decent Arrow model - it’s such a gorgeous plane.

Hey, have you ever been to the Avro museum in Calgary? It’s a dinky little shop turned into a sort of shrine for the Arrow, complete with some parts from a real, live (kindof) Arrow! It also includes a guy who knows just about everything there is to know about them - we had a fascinating talk with him.

Birthday and Christmas presents? Um, yeah, sure. They’ll be coming in the mail.

Just to hijack the thread even more…

Never been to it. However, a guy I used to buy models from mail order was involved in the Avro 2000 project really seriously. He was from Calgary. Scale-by-mail or something was the name of his company. I wouldn’t be suprised if he was working in this “shrine” of sorts now.
