Bernse cleans his basement, treasures await!

Well, Mrs. Bernse has been after me to sort out the basement. Most of which consists of items that have been boxed for years and never opened. There is an open threat in our household that if a box goes unopened for 3 years, it is prime for the trash. So, with that in mind I cracked open the boxes. In them, I discovered stuff I had totally forgotten I’d owned, including:

Original Terminator 2 Movie Poster

1988 Calgary Olympics Anniversery Poster (includes emblems for every winter games)

3 brand new, never worn 1996 Canadian Olympic team hats

About 20 Darth Maul figures, still packaged.

Various plastic models, which I won’t even begin to mention.

2 Limited Edition prints of a 1985 300ZX Turbo

Various original 240Z Emblems, from a, well, 240Z

2 Commodore Plus 4s, in boxes

1 Commodore C16 in box

A Sega Saturn, in box never opened

An Intellivision and Coleco Adam

About 2 dozed East German Armed Forces uniforms. From an NCO to a General, army, border guards and air force. Include peaked caps.

A Crossman Uzi air gun

2 Electric RC B2 bombers

A grocery bag of cassette tapes from when I sold and cleaned out my car about 6 years ago.

A garbage bag full of fireworks!

My FN #49 Rifle!  (seriously, I knew roughly where this was. It had a trigger lock on it as well)

A crapload of collectors plates I inherited from my Grandfater when he passed on

Several proof sets of Canadian Coins

My license plates from when I lived in Vancouver

If you want to get rid of the Intellivision and Adam, drop me an email. I love collecting old consoles.

I collect unopened Sega Saturns.

I had to run as I was posting this last night, but I wasn’t even done!

A Box Kite from when I was a kid

A little thing-a-ma-bob that runs up and down the string of aforementioned Box-Kite.

Photos from my Grad

Unopened/unused gifts from out wedding (2000) including:

A Vegetable steamer

Corningware bowls w/lids

Pewter picture frames

A Breadmaker

A Coffee cup set (big honkin’ mugs!)

A big fruit dish

A lead crystal vase

Silver serving platter

Back to the regular stuff:

My slingshot from when I was a kid

A little yellow hat that I wore as a child. It was a gift from friends of the family in New Zealand that you see me wearing in every photograph from when I was about 6 to 9. That was a nice find

A box of National Geographics from about 1980-1995.

My set of “Next-Generation” computer/videogame magazine. From issue 1 in 1994(?) to sometime in 1998.

My Time-Life book set on the Third Reich.

… and a whole bunch of other crap that is even less worthy of mentioning, but re-discovered.

Anonymous and Magayuk, I kind of collect them too… sorry! I knew I had them somewhere, but it was a pleasant find to re-discover them!

That’s awesome. May I ask, why did you ever have 20 Darth Maul figures?

If you want to get rid of the crystal, silver, and picture frames, I may be interested.

Heh. They were on sale, and if memory serves they were the “hard” ones to come by… so my rationale was that maybe 20-30 years from then they might actually be worth something. I will be the first to admit, that’s a big maybe.

Sounds like you’ve got a major yard sale in the making there!

Well, I probably am going to sell one or two things that I re-discovered on ebay or something, but the rest of it is just sorted out and put somewhere out of the way. I couldn’t bring myself to selling most of it.

Besides, the Wedding stuff that we have that we haven’t opened yet make great, um, wedding gifts!

What’s with the uniforms?? How did you acquire them?

I take it that you won’t be getting rid of a lot of this stuff after all…?

No! I cracked them open and ID’d the contents. If I hadn’t, Mrs. Bernse would have went through the basement and just turfed any boxes she could tell that hadn’t been opened yet (IE- Still taped shut).

I bought many of those uniforms for next to nothing shortly after the wall fell. One of my many “collections”.

Mrs. Bernse would shed no tears if all of my collections decided to disappear some day. I have to be on my guard! It’s a good thing we have a relatively large basement.

Gee you wouldn’t have a box full of old monopoly games in that collection that you’ve lost your love for? (Just trying to help Mrs. Bernse get her basement back)

I must say you have quite the ecclectic collection of stuff!

Interesting enough, I did find a Monopoly game, still shrunk wrapped, never even opened.
[sub] I suppose I have a fetish for keeping things in their packaging![/sub]

Don’t get excited though, I don’t think its more than 5 years old so probably not worth collecting or anything.

That’s prime EBay material, dude!

Aww Shucks

Then again I don’t know any household that doesn’t have at least one Monopoly set… (I have 40ish myself)

Boy, sounds like what we did …

Although I am saving the three piece crystal plate/bowl set. Even though it’s got frosted roses on it. (Not my usual cup of tea.)

bernse, are you Jim’s long-lost twin brother? When we moved into this house together, there were long “discussions”[sub]1[/sub] about why he couldn’t keep every single piece of his “collections”[sub]2[/sub], and would actually have to throw some stuff away. I also threatened to “pack”[sub]3[/sub] for him; apparently, that is a worthy threat for all you packrats.

1 - borderline arguments
2 - big bunches o’ garbage
3 - throw everything out

I guess I just think of the future, say 30 years or so from now. How cool it will be to have a brand new, circa 1996 Sega Saturn, or all those East German army uniforms, Brand New. Some items may be worth a lot cash, although I will admit, most probably won’t be.

I don’t know why it is that many of you wimmin’s have problems with this stuff! Think of it as an investment in your basement!

How about those plastic models? Do you mean kits? What have you got?

Nothing more I want to get rid of, Czechmaster.

I did get rid of a couple last week though. 1/72 KC-135 and RC-135. A 1/12 1963 Vette too.

I am mostly into 1/48 aircraft and the odd Spacecraft and Startrek Models.

Anyhoo, I re-discovered in my lawnmower box:

NCC-2000 Excelsior

NCC-1701-B Enterprise

1/72 Monogram Shuttle w/boost & External Tank Stack (this one was ironic, for reasons I won’t bother you with)

1/72 B-36 Peacemaker

1/48 AR-234C

1/48 B-57 Hustler

1/48 B1-B

1/48 Go229

1/48 Do-335

And a several Revell/Monogram cheap 1/48 kits that you would get a dept store, like an Sr71, Harrier, F4, F-14, F18, F15. I probably have about 50 kits in total now. While thats not much for most people that are in the hobby, thats probably about 10x the amount Mrs. Bernse would like me to have!
