This is an easy one. U2’s “One” is their magnum opus, and might even be my favorite song of the decade.
Yeah, definitely one of the weaker tracks on Wish. But I personally think that album is one of their best - a ton of great tracks throughout. My personal favorite is “Letter to Elise”. The b-side to “Friday I’m in Love” (Halo) is also excellent.
I will always happily vote for anything David Lowery did…so Cracker it is.
And NOW I can say: it’s a shame about Ray…
So many classic bands and yet I voted for Cracker. I aleays liked that song and I was going to vote for something else until I realized I was humming ‘Low’ under my breath.
On another note I hate Peter Gabriel so very much and resent his incursion into an otherwise good set of choices.
Voted for the B-52’s as I lived in Athens, GA in 1992 (their hometown, for those of you who can’t read between the lines. )
I started listening to The Cure in 1991. Before that, I knew who they were, was familiar with half a dozen of their singles from the 80s but 1991 was the year that I became really obsessed with them.
So Wish was the first new album that I bought and I remember being disappointed. There were some excellent songs like Letter to Elise, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea and the title track but on the whole, it was a let-down after Disintegration. And Friday I’m in Love was definitely one of the weakest tracks.
Voted “Digging In The Dirt” which somehow is both utterly creepy and melodically catchy at the same time.
What’s interesting is what isn’t on the list: not a single Seattle grunge band topped the alternative charts in 1992. Was this pretty indicative of what alternative radio played in 1992 (most cities still didn’t have a alternative station in 1992) or is there something else going on?
