Best #2 villain in movies

I was thinking the other evening about James Bond and realized that usually, there was a very good number two villain in his movies. In that way he could match wits with number one and match fists with number two.

In my mind the best was Odd Job (I think he was so much better than Jaws)who served as alter ego for Goldfinger. I was wondering about other great number two villains. Not just in Bond films, but in others. Can you think of many?

Other than Bond films, I was rather hard pressed to come up with many.

Paul Reubens in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

"Arrgggh… eee… ooo… ouuuuuch… rrrr… "

evil and funny - nice combination

Darth Vader, of course.

Blondie Cannotbekilledbyhangingerson from Die Hard.
John McLaine kills his nerdy brother so Blondie is out for revenge!
He also carries an awesome machine gun. (A Steyr Bullpup? I don’t know from guns)

Aryan O’Riggswifemurderer from Lethal Weapon 2.
The evil South African diplomat’s number 2 is also the guy who killed Riggs wife years ago when he was hired to kill Riggs.

Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast. Jesus…he scared the shit out of me. I forget who played his boss, but it doesn’t matter. He was frightening.

I was genuinely impressed by Rob Lowe’s interpretation of a young Robert Wagner.

Mr Morden from the Babylon 5 series. “What do you want ?”

I nominate Ben Stiller in Happy Gilmore.
“You’re in my world now, Grandma.”
Happy Gilmore also has, IMHO, perhaps the greatest comic villian of all time: Shooter McGavin. He makes my skin crawl. In the best possible way.

But now you’ve got me thinking. Darth Helmet & Mel Brooks in Spaceballs were a fantastic “villianous” pairing. So were Richard Lewis & the Sherriff of Rottingham in Robin Hood Men In Tights. Mel Brooks had that whole dynamic down pat, it would seem.

Okay, I’ll let someone add some real villians now. But Ben Stiller & Shooter McGavin remain, in my opinion, the best comedic villian-duo ever.

Oddbod in Carry on Screaming was good.

Mr. Joshua from “Lethal Weapon” jumps to mind. I can’t even remember his boss’s name.

Saruman from LOTR comes to mind.

The six-fingered man from the Princess Bride.

And if you’ll permit anime, I’ll throw in Legato Bluesummers from Trigun. Creepy and downright evil.

Creeping into TV & Animation, Shego leaps to mind.

Shego appears on Kim Possible as Henchwoman to the nefarious Dr. Drakken. And is far smarter & more competent than her boss.

Starscream from Transformers: The Movie.

Darth Maul

Literal answer to the OP: Noman the Golgothan, from Dogma.

Aha! I knew I was going to think of another good one!

Stay Puff Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.

Since that is the definitive answer, any passing mod can just close this thread.

  • Peter Wiggen

Destro in GI JOE. Smarter, more cunning and a proper sense of honor, compared to his partner in crime/boss Cobra Commander.

In Silence of the Lambs: Jame ‘Buffalo Bill’ Gumb

Truly Creepy and horrible.

Jim

Very good one - yes, Kim Possible does mental battle with Draken (usually not a major battle) and physical battle with Shego (usually a good battle).

Speaking of women #2s Grace Jones did a good job as Christopher Walken’s right-hand person in the Bond thriller View to a Kill.
