What is a good age to a puppy? 8 weeks? 12 weeks?
We got my daughter’s at about 10 weeks, and that seemed to work out well. He had just started to develop a personality, was old enough for his final round of puppy shots, and was amenable to housebreaking (though not without a “deliberate” or two).
Must be a minimum of 8 weeks old to leave his or her momma. Anyone offering before 8 weeks is endangering the well-being and psychological development of the puppy to “move product.”
That said, a little extra time with the litter probably helps give the puppy a firmer foundation. 10-12 weeks is probably fine.
Note that adding a puppy to a household will require A LOT of work and attention. While he or she can use puppy pads at first, you’ll want to housetrain soon, and that will require someone to be home in the middle of the day, even if it means driving home on your lunch hour.
The more you learn, and the more time you spend with your pup using that learning, the better your whole experience will be.
Ditto on 10-12 weeks. Puppies benefit hugely from socializing with other pups and Mom and aren’t old enough beforehand.
