Yeah, that song wasn’t bad. I’ll have to give Big Thief another try. I was distracted by work when I was listening to the DNWMIBIY album yesterday, so maybe I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind.
It’s funny, because to me, that Wet Leg album is totally a “middle aged dad” album. By that I mean it trades heavily on late 20th century indie/alternative rock nostalgia. It’s not exactly breaking any new musical ground. The complaint I have about them is that after a few listens it all feels a bit shallow. But banger grooves, man!
Mitski is awesome. Definitely recommend.
Well, that certainly is me. At least the ‘dad’ part. The middle-aged part? I guess 58 is still technically considered middle-aged but I doubt I’ll make it to 116 ![]()
Like I said to Maserschmidt, yesterday was probably not the best day to give new stuff a listen. I was not in the greatest mood and distracted by work deadlines. I did kinda like “Chaise Lounge” the other day.
With the holidays and time off coming up, I’ll revisit some of this stuff in a more relaxed mode, perhaps while enjoying a beverage.
Interesting. I hadn’t heard of this album/band either (my tastes these days run hip-hop, R&B, electronica at times, etc - though I’ll also join the chorus and say Mitski, who is an indie rock artist, is amazing), so I started to listen to it, and I really enjoyed it. It doesn’t sound too far out of the norm for indie rock bands. Perhaps the first song just didn’t do it for you?
Well, like I said afterward, I might just not have been in the right listening mood. I think I need to give things a re-listen when I’m less distracted. I mentioned that did kinda like the Big Thief song that Maserschmidt recommended:
I hadn’t listened to “Blue Rev” by Alvvays yet, but now I have (having seen it on many of these lists), and it’s really very good. Fuzzy and dreamy and poppy, among other things.
