For today’s update I have sorted all titles with at least 10% of their poll’s votes into one stack based on percentages of total poll/thread.
The actual Votes totals by thread are at the bottom.
In order to get the Top 100 as the starting point for DinoR’s scheme we may be able to dump any title with less than 17% of total and be close.

I’ll suggest that we go down the pile (after we have decided the voting in the individual “decades threads” is about done – and we’ve added in the “Overflow Thread” votes) and select the Top 120.
If we use the last longish such report I gave at this post
that would have been
That would relieve some concern that the 100 breakpoint might have been too tight – even thought the same issue would apply to 120!
Using your scheme of Top Half Moves On to later polls, that would make the breaks at 60, 30, 15 and whatever (10?) (5?) instead of the original 50, 25 and whatever.
This assumes that the issue still exists after (hopefully) more votes continue coming in all around.
There’s been a flurry of activity the past day or two after things sat basically unchanged for about five days.
Therefore these numbers may already be out of date!
With discussions leading toward the idea that the Top Eight in each poll should move forward to the next phase of the project
I have indicated where those Top Eight would be based on current voting. There are a few places where that’s not going to work
but it’s reasonably close.
I have shown the total votes by poll as of today as compared with what they were last summary.
I’m thinking we can just drop those titles with ONE VOTE since they’re not apt to accumulate enough new votes to matter.
I have left them here so you can evaluate that idea.
Since the OVERFLOW voting is newest I have shown both the latest two versions.
Also you can click the link to the poll in question to see how voting may have changed since I took these sbapshots.

I can’t say the results are surprising. The nomination system put in a lot of movies that are not war movies, but oh well.
I think all the top polling movies are highly deserving.
I’ve said it in other movie contexts before and will again in that I always prefer a movie that tries something different. A movie that is very well made but is basically just a better crafted version of lesser movies isn’t as impressive to me as a movie that might even have a few more flaws but makes an attempt to be something new. “Saving Private Ryan” is not, scriptwise, an especially well-written movie, but it moved war movies in a direction they had not generally gone before in terms of brutal, horrific realism. You’d never quite seen anything LIKE that. The style and feel of, say, “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima” are directly traceable to “Saving Private Ryan.” Had SPR and Letters from Iwo Jima been released on the same day, I would argue Iwo Jima was the better film; it has the same level of excellence in cinematic artistry and portrays war in must the same way SPR does. But it was in fact released years later, and owes much of what it is to SPR.
I would make similar comments about many of the other top polling movies; “Patton” is a very unusual character study by the standards of its day. “Apocalypse Now” and “MASH” are not really like anything else. “All Quiet on the Western Front” was an anti-war movie in a time that was a controversial perspective to say the very least.
Full Metal Jacket? Platoon? Das Boot? Gallipoli? Ran? Grave of the Fireflies?
Saving Private Ryan was the first film to take the grim realism of lots of previous films and lighten up the tone and presentation, without turning it into a puff piece for the military, well enough to be palatable to your average audience. But it was far from the first to present war as a brutal environment. It may be the first to present it “realistically”, in the sense that it was less hyperactively pro- or anti-war than the films which had come before it, but I’d vote that that’s a side effect of lightening the tone of an anti-war film rather than a conscious aim.
“Das Boot” is a different beast, but no, I wouldn’t say those are quite the same in terms of the technical proficiency with which the carnage is shown. They are also, for want of a better term, more traditionally paced, if you will. “SPR” is deliberately relentless at times, purposefully exhausting the viewer with violence. (Don’t get me wrong, those are all great, great movies.)
I think, too, that the film’s deliberately avoidance of pro or anti-war positioning was itself part of its ambition and innovation. The absence of a political position simply places greater emphasis on the horror.
Here’s an update of polls that have had changes since either Post #29 or Post #28
In each case I have shown a break after the eighth title (with ties counted)

… I’m proposing that we dispense with the preliminaries and get down to the Final Phase of this exercise.
Either the TOP EIGHT from each poll – or those titles that individually received at least 10% of their poll’s votes – will move on to the Second Phase where we will reduce that number of titles to half of the population of whatever that number turns out to be.
Other suggestions or ideas?
Unless there’s objection to this plan I will start that Second Phase poll on Saturday June/27.
