To get us to 300, I’m adding one from my teen years that had Broderick Crawford as a CO who was afraid of getting sniped so he had the guys not salute him and he never wore his insignia in plain sight. You guessed it: when he got transferred out, he dressed all spiffy with is officer’s insignia plainly showing on his helmet, got the guys together to salute him goodbye, and “POP” a sniper laid him out.

because we may still have to find the #1 (or at least one of the Top 20) among those movies not yet on our list. So keep them coming and we’ll deal with them later.

Seeing The Human Condition reminds me about The Human Comedy. Van Johnson is a GI who doesn’t come home. A somewhat depressing movie, but a good one.

Mickey Rooney, who was also in The Secret Invasion, plays Johnson’s brother.
