Damn fine list, if I do say so! Thanks. Keep 'em coming.

The Big Parade.

Hamburger Hill
The Eagle Has Landed

Not all of these are necessarily movies that I would vote as “Best”, but ones which I could conceivably view as gaining a few votes (plus a few joke entries).

Counts:
GI Jane
Fury
The Hurt Locker

Probably Counts:
Ran
Kingdom of Heaven
300
Good Morning, Vietnam
Braveheart
Snow White and the Huntsman
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

Maybe Counts:
Grave of the Fireflies
Doctor Zhivago
Jacob’s Ladder

Probably Doesn’t Count:
Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS

Does A Few Good Men really count or should it be kept to movies where some sort of major conflict is in progress which provides the back drop to the story being told . The list could get quite long if you include any movie with people in uniform .
If so add Stripes and an officer and a gentleman and top gun to the list
(I quite like those movies but maybe stretching the definition of military movies)

Where Eagles Dare

MAS*H

My attitude toward this listing process is that if you think of it as a “war movie” or whatever synonym that conjures up for you, then go for it. If it gets votes, so much the better. At the very least it might trigger somebody else to think of yet another good War Movie.

I’ll add them to the list for the giggles anyway!

Some that I don’t think have been mentioned

The Best Years of Our Lives
Father Goose
49th Parallel
The Four Feathers (1977)
Fury
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
MASH
Mrs Miniver
Operation Petticoat

What does the house think of Europa Europa?

Looks like it ought to qualify to me:

I think I’ll attach the IMDb link for all these movies before posting the updated list.

Great list so far, here’s a few more:
In Harm’s Way
They Were Expendable
The Boys in Company C

And just because I saw it very late last night:
The Conqueror Worm

Lawrence of Arabia

War Horse

For Whom the Bell Tolls

A Farewell to Arms

Catch-22

The Alamo

55 Days at Peking

The Guns of Navarone

Which one? Or all of them?

There’s even the Davy Crockett (Disney) version
