Also, if any film with people in uniform counts, I’d like to respectfully submit I Was a Male War Bride, which is presented as a screwball comedy, but is actually based on the true story of a Frenchman who married a WAC and traveled to the US under the “War Bride” act, which, in spite of being nicknamed that, didn’t specify the gender of the spouse, although in practice, was set up to accommodate only women.

Here’s another update, this time with release date attached.

I’m thinking the breakdown by conflict may leave some movies in too a tight group and others in a huge array for selection. Neither strikes me as fair.

What I’m proposing now is to take the 120+ movies and group them in roughly chronological sets (maybe five or six sets or so) and have voters pick some reasonable number (on the Honor System) of five or ten per group.

Depending on how that shakes out, perhaps have a Final Poll of the winners in each set all lumped together for the Big Picture of “best” or “favorite” or whatever.

Please offer suggestions for improving the next step(s) we take, and continue listing other movies while we’re still deciding what to do.

And if I have mislabeled the IMDb link or date, please point such things out to me.

I remember enjoying The Bridge at Remagen, but not sure how well it’d hold up today.

I am shocked that these two haven’t been mentioned yet, they are for me two movies I always try to catch if they are on the tube. And despite being around 50 years old, the stories hold up well today. IMHO.
