I use Citymapper in NYC. Love it. They give access to other major cities including Chicago.

Google Maps can also do public transit, at least around here.
I like The Transit App. They also cover a bunch of major cities around the world.
I also quite like Citymapper, it covers Chicago. I doubt it covers any other Illinois cities, but I could be wrong. For the CTA in Chicago, I use transit stop.
If you’re going to be living or spending an extended time in Chicago, you can also sign up for text alerts from the CTA.
What exactly is the issue with Google Maps that needs to be “beat”? I’ve used it for public transport in Chicago, NYC, San Francisco, even in Spain.
Yeah–I use it in L.A. as well as Bogota, Colombia. I haven’t tried it in Chicago, so maybe there’s something better, but it’s always worked wherever I go.
Citymapper is more phone friendly for lots of functions, IMHO. Yeah, when driving I use Google Maps. But for things like subway and bus, Citymapper is much more friendly. And with Citymapper, I get live bus and subway times via GPS tracking. That is the most important feature for me. It tells me when the next three buses or trains are going to be at the stops I enter and it’s surprisingly accurate. Also real-time Uber and Lyft availability. Saves a list of recent and saved stops to easily choose departures and destinations frequently used.
