Best cell phone with talk and text only? aka need help with smartphone addiction..

Hey all,
So my phone got dropped in Golden Canyon at Death
Valley, and, well, the canyon is made out of rock. :stuck_out_tongue: So that’s it for the phone. But I already budgeted for a new phone in June, and I do not want to spend the money earlier. The other problem, though, is that I’ve just become too addicted to staring at a smartphone all the time. Not trying to say that this happens to everyone, but I have that kind of personality and I can honestly say that I’ve been spending way way too much time every day with it. So here’s the question.

Is there a cell phone that a.) ONLY does talk, text, and voicemail
and
b.) Will work with the family account with Sprint?

Or would it be better to go off the account and just do a cheaper plan… that’s another option until summer… but the main thing is, I need to find this kind of phone. It might sound crazy, but I think I need to take drastic action because I don’t seem to be able to have a normal smartphone without getting sucked into it constantly. All advice appreciated!

If you decide to get off Sprint temporarily, StraightTalk from Walmart sells prepaid flip phones for $29.99.

You need a flip phone (don’t call it a dumb phone). Just be sure the one you buy will work on Sprint; not all of them do – it’s a matter of GSM and / or CDMA, which I won’t go into here to keep it simple – but Sprint appears to be in the process of switching from CDMA to GSM (actually CDMA is being phased out entirely). It’s complicated – just be sure the phone you buy will work on Sprint if you want to continue to use your existing plan. Or look for cheap flip phone plans on other carriers if price is a major factor. Or look for a really good flip phone that will work on Sprint if you aren’t very price sensitive.

Congratulations on recognizing and tackling your smart phone problem.

One example you might find useful:

Kyocera DuraXT E4277 PTT (Sprint)

Thanks all! I will look into that phone… my old smartphone started working again for now, so I’m not sure WHAT to do…I think I really would be better off without it for a while, though, so I’m still looking into get an intellectually challenged replacement.
