Best computer mouse.

I’ve long switched to trackballs.

What’s the best computer mouse? The last one I had sometimes moved 2 pages when I clicked something, and the one I have now sometimes moves up and down when I scroll.

I ordered a new mouse. Can anyone tell me if it’s any good?

Most likely a Chinese piece-of-crap. But at $8, what do you expect?

Should I keep using my current mouse, even though sometimes it scrolls up and down?

Sorry to double post, but the mouse that double clicks is a Logitech G303.

I did some research, and apparently this is a common problem with Logitech mice.

I suggest you look at some of the recommendations in your other thread.

Hmm… I’ve just noticed that the bulk of my post is missing. Sorry about that.

I switched away from mice because I was getting twinges in my hands.

I currently use a Kensington Expert Mouse, which is actually a 4-button trackball. I previously used Kensington’s Orbit Elite with scroll ring trackballs. Both are ambidexterous so a boon for a left-hander like myself. I also have a Logitech M570 right-handed wireless trackball which is much more mouse-shaped and has a thumbwheel.

But the very best system I used was a Wacom pen and pad. Unfortunately it didn’t work well with multiple screens.

My last mouse, the one that double clicks on a single click, is a Logitech G303. Apparently, double-clicking is a common problem with Logitech mice.

How do I fix this?

I just want a good mouse for everyday Internet browsing.

Sorry, forgot I already made this topic. :smack:

“Best” is quite subjective, as others have pointed out.

I have ONE basic criterion: how well does the mouse work on fabric and uneven surfaces? I surf (how quaint!) from my couch a lot and so I use my mouse on my pants leg, the couch cushion, the newspapers lying on the couch, the dog blanket on the couch, and even the dog itself. Based on this, the Logitech M305 has always been the champ. Works on everything. The M310 is almost as good. Unfortunately, the M305 appears to be discontinued and the remaining ones listed on Ama*** are priced like gold. Fortunately, I have at least five more brand new ones stowed away,

The M305 is also a good size (not too big, not too small) and has the controls I want. To repeat what has been stated previously, tuning the mouse settings makes all the difference.

Recently ordered this mouse: Amazon.com

Will it be OK for everyday stuff?

My usual recommendation is to go to a store like Best Buy or Staples that has several models of mice and trackballs on display in a way that you can put your hand on them and at least pretend to use them. You may find that the travel mice are too small for comfortable use, or the click button is awkward to reach on that other mouse.

And you might be able to correct the issues with your current mouse by downloading and installing the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.

I’d say that Lingyi is a little overkill for everyday use but at that price it’s worth trying out and since you can program the buttons you could have it do all sorts of useful stuff like opening your browser or a much used program. I’m curious to see what your experience with it is, so let us know when you get it.

What makes it overkill for everyday use?

I’ve merged the two threads.

It’s the copper leaf spring going bad. Over time and many clicks, it flattens out some and so contacts the trigger more than it should causing the multiple registered clicks. It is fixable (until it happens again) by disassembling the mouse and gently bending it back into shape but this depends on how much you care about the mouse.

Edit: The linked article mentions a couple different causes/solutions although in my case it was a question of putting the curve back into the leaf spring using a small pointy object to slip under it and form it back around the curve.

I have two, both non-functional.

I did switch to the M570, and you are right, it is a bit smaller and it is a bit different, but I have grown to like it. I think they had some production issues at the beginning of their run. People seemed to complain quite a bit about quality and reliability when they first came out, but I have had no problem.

I also picked up one of these left handed trackballs, as there are times when it I feel like switching it up (and I am left handed, so it doesn’t feel too unnatural), but I use the M570 for most work.

I do like trackballs because you can use them in any position. Less worry about repetitive strain injury. I put it on my leg, I’ll lean back in my chair with it on my chest, it fits on the armrest of my chair, even.

Why do my mice not work after 6 months-a year?

No idea. I usually get several years out of a mouse and tend to upgrade just because I see a good deal on a new one rather than because the old one actually stopped working.
