Best concert audience sing-alongs

Inspired by another current thread that is discussing whether the campfire singalong is dead or not, it got me thinking about one of my most favorite things. I’m not sure what it is about how my mind is wired when it cones to music, but I really emotionally connect to large groups of people singing together. I mean I can easily become weepy eyed when it’s done right. And by right I don’t necessarily mean well sung, but just real emotion does it for me. I’m a middle aged guy who own three chainsaws, but a good audience participation brings me to tears.:stuck_out_tongue:

So, I love me some audience sing-a-longs. I go to a LOT of live music performances, and I’ve heard/participated in quite a few good ones over the years, but what say you?

Post up your pic for the best audience participation. Ideally a you-tube or link to the audio, with instructions on what part of the song to skip to for those that don’t want to hear the entire song.

So, here are two get us started:

Don’t Look Back In Anger - Noel Gallagher
No need to cut to any specific part, the audience does the whole damn song with him, but they take over at about 2:30. Love how Noel and the band are kinda dumbstruck at the audience and how good they are.

I have no idea what she is singing, but Lara Fabian can barely get through this song because of the emotion from the audience. Again, no specific spot in the song, it’s pretty much the whole thing.

So, others?
So, what say you?

Back in the early 2000’s Dashboard Confessional concerts were basically one big sing-a-long.

My favorite has gotta be the “DIE” chant in Metallica’s Creeping Death.

At the live shows of “A Prairie Home Companion” there is always a huge sing-along at intermission and afterwards. The best I encountered was at Wolf Trap’s Filene Centre where you get everything from foreign ambassadors in the Opera boxes to rural Virginia families in blue jeans having a picnic on the hill. All singing together to a live band.

Margarita-ville

American Pie

Harry Chapin’s tour de force performance AND Hamilton, ON’s tour de force participation of “30,000 Pounds of Bananas” at Chapin’s final ever concert.

I was at a Neil Young concert in Ottawa in about 1986 or 1987. He started singing “Heart of Gold” and the audience just took over.

Neil said “Man, you guys are putting me out of a job.”

It was fantastic.

I think “Hey Jude” is probably a good example, especially “Na na na” stuff.

Harry Belafonte at Carnegie Hall, 1959

Matilda

When I saw Danielle Ate the Sandwich live, she had the audience do the chorus for “I Put My Faith in a Man.” She, and they, were fabulous. That was one ruly crowd that night, let me tell you.

I don’t think Eddie Veddar quite expected this: Better Man.

Usually I dislike when the audience take over a song, but this one makes me smile.

I don’t know which particular performance but the guy on stage would have to be Pete Seeger.

Babylon from Don McLean’s 1976 live album. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

Now, that is what I’m talking about. I was hoping for links to specific performances, not just songs that are good for singalongs

“40” by U2 from the Live at Red Rocks concert in 1983. (near the end)

I came in to say this.

60,000 voices strong when I saw Paul McCartney last year in Seattle.

Queen: “Love of My Life”

Heck, with Queen, sometimes the band doesn’t even need to be there!

This is the song which I was going to post.

Here’s about 20,000 people finishing a familiar song in Toronto when the PA system fails.

Blind Guardian - The Bard’s Song

This is kind of a King’s X fan tradition:
