Best concert audience sing-alongs

Peter Gabriel turned “Biko” into a stirring sing-along at the Forest Hills Tennis Stadium on the Security tour.

Tim Minchin does excellent covers of Cohen’s “Halleluiah” - many online examples of audiences joining in. He also performed a great version of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” that had the audience chiming in.

Neil Finn of Crowded House encourages audience participation with many of his songs. The 1996 Sydney Opera House Farewell performance was attended by over 100,000 people:

An newer example of his live work can be found here, along with Aussie songwriter Paul Kelly:

I’m sure you’re right, but for arguments’ sake, I saw him in Louisville, KY and Cincinnati. These shows would have been at least 15 years ago.

I’m convinced that this is (at least a big part of) the reason for Bob Dylan’s continually changing style/tempo/delivery in concert. He wants people to listen to him, not sing along with whatever they have in their head.

IIRC, Adam Duritz of Counting Crows has done this several times with “Round Here.”

Oh, and Ben Folds has had the audience sing along to Army, to compensate for the instruments that he doesn’t have on stage that were on the album version.

Peter Frampton - Baby, I Love Your Way (intro: Nassau)

Saw a slightly different clip (same tour) of this on a PBS show a few years back. The audience was even more vocal than this.

If anyone has ever seen Black Sabbath live, you will know what happens when they play “War Pigs”…
EVERYONE in that place is singing.

Everyone.

Solidarity Forever (all six verses!) at a picket line near you.

I saw Soul Asylum in Milwaukee in the 90"s. They ended with Rhinestone Cowboy, everybody sang along. It was joyful.

Oh, that sounds marvelous!

“Riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo!”

I saw Queen in 1981. It was We Are The Champions that the audience sang all the way through. With 5,000 lighters in the air. What a great show that was.
