Best electrical correspondence course

Can anyone out there recommend a correspondence (or other) course for electrical engineering? I’d like to try to go to school, but I work long nights and have no time for travel…

I hate being the bearer of bad news but I would think that no worthwhile engineering school would offer correspondence courses. I could very well be wrong though. Maybe someone else knows something I don’t.

You might try finding a related job that doesn’t require a degree, such as a technician, and then parlay that into schooling if you’re serious about becoming an engineer. I’ve known a few people who did it that way.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

I’m already doing that. I’ve been an electrical designer for 14 years. I’ve just never had the time, money, and inclination all at the same time. My employer would really like to see a degree on my resume, though. Without it, they can’t reasonably charge our customers for my time as an engineer.

But thanks anyway…

Don’t let me stop you. Like I said I could be wrong. I’m assuming your employer won’t pay for your schooling if you promise to keep working there for a few years? Some companies do that, especially if they want you to have a degree.

I have heard of colleges doing distance learning, but I don’t know if it’s still just a dream for the future or if any schools are actually doing it. You might try to find out about it.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. Good luck.

They would be happy to take a financial stake. Perhaps “correspondence” was a poor choice of words. I’m just looking for a way that doesn’t involve a 70 mile commute. Perhaps a broadening of the question to “Anyone know a good distance learning resource?”
