Not my favorite, but certainly a memorable, cheesy moment where I thought the character insights were so silly and fun: Rascals sets up ice shield to ward off flamers
Personally, All Good Things is to me an extra TNG movie and just beyond wonderful
The episode (I forget the name) where Beverly meets a mystery man at her dead grandmother’s house was just too bizarre and fun, plus I dig Gates, she deserved more screen time.
And Q. Because anything with Q is just right and wonderful and sparkly, especially when Picard dies b/c that episode was just fun to watch
and the one where we first meet the half Romulan daughter of the Tasha from the alternate time line, which was also a very good episode. Sorry, I suck on names.
The episodes with Tasha in them caused me pain. It seemed they were always looking for ways to reintroduce her back into the series. Everytime I saw her, I was thinking, “OK, you wanted to leave the show, so what’s the problem?”.
I’d have to go with All Good Things as my favorite. It was better than several of the Trek movies.
I too cannot remember episode names, but my all time favorite was the episode where Riker takes a few starfleet officers to an old star ship and they have a fake battle with the Enterprise that turns into serious warfare.
Data was also beaten in “Stratagama” in that episode.
There’s an early episode where Geordi uses a hologram simulation of the woman who designed the warp engines to solve some problem, and he falls in love with her. That episode was ok, but there’s a later episode where he meets the real woman and she’s quite different from what he expected. Plus she’s married. D’oh!
Another good one is where Beverly has a fling with a Trillian ambassador, but it turns out his species is symbiotic and the host body falls ill. Riker volunteers to be a temporary host to complete a negotiation, and Riker/Trillian dude has some intense scenes with Dr. Beverly.
My favorite episode (and don’t know how I missed this thread until now!) would have to be The Inner Light, but I’m also very partial to the episode where Beverly falls for the Trill because that was the very first episode of TNG that I ever saw. Until then (it was in fact during the political conventions in 1992), I was a TOS “purist” and looked down on TNG, even though I’d never even seen an episode. Well, that Trill and Beverly totally changed my mind.
I’m a sucker for and of the archaeological eps, so I love ‘the chase’ and ‘gambit’. I also love picard being all moral and hardcore so think my favourite has to be ‘The Drumhead’
I love the character of Q, and “Deja Q” may be the best Q episode of all. It is certainly the funniest, and features many of his best lines:
-“Oh very clever, Worf. Eat any good books lately?”
-“Simple. Change the gravitational constant of the universe.”
-“Picard thinks I can’t cut it on his starship. I can do anything his little trained minions can do.”
-“It’s difficult to work in a group when you’re omnipotent.”
-“I take it back. You do have a sense of humor… a dreadful one, at that.”
-“My good fortune is your good fortune!”
-(to Riker) “Oh, you’re so stolid! You weren’t like that before the beard.”
And that’s leaving out the hilariously deadpan responses he gets from the Enterprise crew.
Other great episodes include, of course, the often-mentioned “The Inner Light,” “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” “Best of Both Worlds,” and “All Good Things…”
I’m also quite fond of the episode titled “First Contact” (no relation to the movie), in which we get a view of the Enterprise crew from the perspective of a more primitive alien race that they’re observing. It’s a clever inversion of the classic “aliens among us” story that also ends up being one of the best executions of the usually-flawed “Prime Directive” plot device.
The Inner Light is probably my favorite, but I also really like one that hasn’t been mentioned yet: Tin Man.
For those not familiar, the Enterprise must go “secure” an alien ship in orbit around a star about to go supernova. The ship ends up being organic, telepathic and intelligent.
Great performances from Brent Spiner and Harry Groener as Tam Elbrun.
