Best ever batter vs. pitcher

Alex Rodriguez has had four at bats against Detroit pitcher Wilfredo Ledezma. Result: four home runs.

That’s as good as it gets, folks. But, still, it’s only four at bats.

What’s the best record for any batter against a pitcher, minimum 5 at bats? 10? 20? more?

Probably difficult to determine because of the scarcity of batter v. pitcher matchups from earlier than the 1970s.

Alex Rodriguez’s hot streak isn’t unusual. In 1963-64, Frank Howard homered in six straight appearances against Bob Hendley.

The source for answers to these sorts of questions is Retrosheet, an organization that collects historical play-by-play data. If they don’t have the batter-pitcher matchups posted, an email to founder Dave Smith should get you the answer.
