I’d go with one of these.
On the other hand, if you expect trouble at extreme close range as opposed to extreme long range, you could go with a combat knife or short sword. It’s always loaded and it won’t jam.
Which, unfortunately, violates the first tenet of gun fighting, 1. Bring a gun. Preferably two.
