Best marijuana strains and means of ingestion for those prone to weed anxiety

Yep. I buy my carts at the dispensary, where I pay ~$50 for a 500 mg cartridge.

Meanwhile, I know people in other states who buy 1000 mg carts for $40 from their plug.

The cost here in NV has come down. While $50/.5g is still common, the average is closer to $40 and daily deal prices as low as $15/.5g can be had.

Sorry if this is too much of a derail. Just learned of it and no hits on SDMB. Delta 8 THC, supposedly legal. Anyone with experience?

Its not a derail, its interesting.

My concern is that aren’t synthetic forms of THC sometimes dangerous? I’ve heard a lot of stories of people really freaking out on K2 and spice.

Looking through the reviews, they say that D-8 is similar to D-9 THC but about half a potent. Nothing wrong with that, I’d prefer that over the way too potent stuff coming out of China.

It isn’t synthetic AFAIK. It is just a different cannabinoid that extracted from either cannabis or hemp. It isn’t something that a chemist came up with.

Thank you for clarifying that.

It looks to me like Delta 9 is the cannabinoid in the plant and when you burn it, it turns into Delta 8. So they outlawed Delta 9 in the 2018 farm bill. Almost nailed it.

I strongly agree with you on this. I am 73 and started using pot at about 13. I have micro dosed my entire life. I find if I use a little bit too much one day it lessens my experience for the next day. I also feel multiple doses through out the day might give you a little rush but the affects wear off quicker each dose. A single small dose stretched out for 30 min or so for an entire day will give the most bang for your buck.

Would you mind explaining this? I have no idea what it means.

It means take about 30 min adjusting the high you want after that don’t touch it anymore. maybe you need 2 hits maybe 5. Within about 30 minutes time you should be able to adjust it depending on the pot you have.

While I don’t have weed anxiety, I have a lot of questions, and most are answered in this thread, so I think it makes more sense to bump this rather than start a new one. [also, pot is legal here in MA, in fact there are dispensaries in most of the towns around mine].

For background, I smoked a fair amount of pot many, many years ago, usually rolled. I’d now like to do it again, but there are questions/complications around delivery mechanism:

  • I have asthma, which is fully controlled, but still. So, smoking/vaping seems to be off the table?, and yet, I do remember how easy it was to gauge the strength of whatever you’d bought from a co-worker/schoolmate and adjust your ongoing intake accordingly. Smoking would be my strong preference w/out the asthma.
  • I’m not interested in a delayed high, or at least not one delayed by an hour or two…I’d like to do some, get a little high, and then move on.

My main question, then, is how to get a relatively quick, controllable high - is that possible with edibles? And, has anyone used sublinguals?

Thanks in advance.

Sublingual is a quicker and more controllable method, for sure, but I don’t think I’ve seen too many THC tinctures manufactured. For what you want I’d suggest a flower vape–no combustion products to irritate the lungs (although you can still get an almighty cough from too big a draw) and very easy to calibrate intake–you can even vary the heat level of the vape to get different levels of carbolyzation to occur, a lower temp leads to a lighter, peppier effect, higher temp is for couch bonding. I use the POTV1 with the dosing bullets–easy to fill the bullets in advance and no cleaning required of the combustion chamber.

Yeah, I’d echo @SmartAleq 's suggestion of a flower vape. Extract based vapes are more likely to make me cough than any method of ingestion I’ve tried, flower based vapes the least. I borrowed a Volcano back in the 2010s. It was very nice, but I imagine the devices suggested above do the job for much less.

I have a Storz and Bickel Mighty, same company that makes the unwieldy but monstrous Volcano. I cannot sing it’s praises enough. Expensive, but worth it and talk about extending your weed dollar. 1-2 capsules of ground, wonderful-tasting fluff is more than enough from good quality weed for a whole day’s supply. Convection heat, so no actual burning of the leaf, much less coughing (which I am trying to avoid as well from being a longtime cigarette smoker) and immeasurably pleasant flavors from the flower. It’s like taking the 1st hit off a bowl over and over, flavor-wise.
So far my purple Tropicana Cookies and some dank-ass Apple Fritter have kept me humming along.

Echoing the suggestion to vape flower. I like my Pax 3:

Scientifically, I think the jury’s still out on asthmatics smoking or vaping weed, but anecdotally I’ve known a lot for whom it’s never been a problem. Here’s a recent study that came to a similarly shruggy conclusion:

Regarding edibles: THC can be felt within minutes and starts to wear off within the hour when you inhale it, so smoking/vaping is my preferred way to make sure I don’t overdo it. When you eat it, it takes the better part of an hour before you even start to feel it, over an hour before you feel the full impact, and several hours to come down. That said, I’ve found some low-dose edibles I really like. These gummies have only 2mg of THC (plus 6 mg of CBD, which is supposed to be calming and beneficial in many ways but doesn’t get you high):

For me, the intoxicating effect is similar to having 1-2 alcoholic drinks, except the buzz lasts longer. (And they taste good!) Many edibles on the market have 10mg of THC or more per dose, and that’s just too dang much for me.

These are all really helpful, thank you!
