Best montage ever?

I caught a little of the end of Karate Kid on AMC yesterday.

One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is when Daniel-san and members of the Cobra Kai are working their way through the single elimination tournament: a great karate-fighting montage with the soul stirring stylings of Joe Esposito overlaying the action. . .

You’re the best. . .around!
And nothing’s gonna ever keep you down.
You’re the best. . .around!
And nothing’s gonna ever keep you down.

That gets my vote for best montage ever. What’s yours?

My first pick might be the “palace coup” montage from The Scarlett Empress. First one that comes to mind, anyway.

Any of the Rocky montages. Specifically:
Rocky III
Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor

Rocky IV
Whatever music was playing while he was training in the Russian snow

Vision Quest also had a few great montages:
Only The Young - Journey
and
Lunatic Fringe - Red Rider

The scene in The Incredibles where Mr. Incredible has just gotten the job offer from Mirage, and he looks at all the posters and clippings and stuff he’s got on his walls…

Anything that we want to go…
from just a beginner to a pro
You need a montage (montage)
Oh it takes a montage (montage)

I like what I refer to as the Act One Finale of South Park, Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
You have four different scenes and 4 different songs all blending together

I absolutely love that bit, it is fantastic. The 4 songs work so well together, as well as being amusing. In my uninformed opinion, South Park, Bigger, Longer and Uncut is the Best. Film. Ever.

msmith537, you got there before me

reminds me of a scene from BtVS Once More With Feeling
Buffy and Giles are working out
Buffy: I’m just worried this whole session will turn into some training montage from an 80’s movie
Giles: Ah, well, if we hear any inspirational power chords, we’ll just lie down until they go away.

I vote for the “invention of the hula hoop scene” in The Hudsucker Proxy. Set to the music of Khachaturian. From idea, to marketing, to manufacturing, to the discovery by the kids–absolutley inspired filmmaking.

My second vote goes to Rocky IV.

Rocky IV. no contest.

Perhaps a slight hijack, but did they ever establish why Rocky decided to his training in the woods with rocks and trees, not modern weights like his other movies?

I think it was to emphasize the David v Goliath aspect.

You know, how America may be a poor and unsophisticated nation of simple rural folk, but the people have an indominable spirit that comes from their long tradition of living by hard, physical work. Unlike the Russians, who although they have all the wealth and technology and sneer at our backwards ignorance, their lavish decadence and rampant materialism has allowed them to grow fat and lazy.

uh,…

In Soviet Russia, POINT misses YOU!

Because it was totally freakin’ awesome. That’s why.

We’re missing good romantic montages here. One of the Naked Gun’s did a good one.

OK, that’s it, **Jurph ** owes me a new keyboard. Hilarious!

I’d second the montages from “Team America: World Police” (including the self-mocking song) and “The Incredibles” (when Mr. Incredible comes home, runs into the bedroom with Elastigirl, plays football with Dash, gets in shape, etc. all to a great jazz score).

Best montages? I guess I’ll have to be the first in this thread to mention the “Christening/Gangland Slayings” montage that happens at the end of The Godfather.

The pampcakes wins!

This would have been my nomination.

Either that, or the “welding the armor on the bus” sequence from A-Team Episode 2.14, “Uncle Murdock’s Alligator Stew.” It just doesn’t get any better than that.
Disclaimer: I have no idea if such an episode or sequence exists. Do not hold in hand. Light fuse and get away.

The opening montage in Robert Altman’s The Player is absolutely brilliant.
