NoScript kept me from having to listen to this at all, but you should be very, very ashamed.
Damn, that is a good understated one.

Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love. Silly I know, but I just love the way those women look and move.
OMG, I loved that video when it first came out! Another one of a similar ilk is Phil Collins’ “Billy Don’t Lose That Number”, which is a parody of all the 80s music video genres.
My picks (no links, I’m lazy):
A-ha, Take on Me
anything by Michael Jackson
for dance videos, Janet Jackson’s “Miss You Much”
Tom Petty, “Don’t Come Around Here No More”
for a later one, No Doubt’s version of “It’s My Life”. Very compelling when paired with the lyrics.
I’ve nominated my choice for best, but here are some fun ones that deserve some love:
Mumford & Sons - Hopeless Wanderer
All American Rejects - Gives You Hell (This version has an alternate ending - I can’t find the original that I first saw).
The video that epitomizes the MTV era to me is Money for Nothing - great(?) 1980’s animation, a really good song and the great final line: Sting’s line “I want my MTV” echoing the line “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” from The Police. Plus a little controversial on top of it all.
All great suggestions and these opinions have expanded my musical experience, taken me back to the days of my youth and realizing I missed out on a LOT of good stuff.
Just a question about controversy in the Dire Straights video.
How would one find the name of the woman/actress in that video, and was that the “scandal” you were referring to?
Seems pretty tame to me. Maybe I am just jaded.
I nominate Grace Potter The Lion, The Beast, The Beat
There’s a stanza that includes the word “faggot” that gets censored or cut from many versions.
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Fiona Apple - Across the Universe
R.E.M. - Imitation of Life
TLC - Creep
Blind Melon - No Rain
OK Go: A Million Ways http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1_CLW-NNwc&ob=av2e or maybe better their Here It Goes Again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA&list=RD3BxfpbyV-uc&index=2
Not for music but for concept there is R.Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFECE98856B07CD52
Thanks. I never knew or realized that.
Ignorance fought and conquered!
As spooky, animated music videos go, Tooll’s “Sober” was always memorable, for me.
For a peppier, more modern one, there’s “I Have Your Heart,” by Kim Boekbinder.
Why am I here? Who me a wait 'pon?
OK Go just seems to have so much fun with these, and just keep upping the stakes: I Won’t Let You Down
