Best of the Rest of the Top 40: 1996

Songs I recognize.

Alanis Morissette - “Ironic”
Alanis Morrissette - “You Learn”*
Alanis Morrissette - “You Oughta Know”*
Joan Osborne - “One Of Us”

I’m too old to vote.

Celine Dion. Completely outside my usual tastes, but I played that single nonstop for months. I drove my mom nuts in the process. I have to give it to her. Fantastic song.

This is a pretty good spread, there are many worth voting for. EBTG, Deep Blue Something, Joan Osborne, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Gin Blossoms… that said, though, one extremely angry little hatesong that got bits censored on radio was and is a trip, and eked out my vote. Alanis oughta know.

Takes me back to 1995. I remember hearing it at work all the time in the Summer of 1995. A few of the other songs are much more 1996 to me, especially the Dishwalla and Deep Blue Something songs.

Joan Osbourne “One of Us” has got to be one of the most rancid ass songs ever to chart, Which is really disappointing considering the rest of that album is fantastic.

I voted for something else

I could just vote for any of them, quite many deserving. Then again, it could be fond nostalgia.
