Funny you should mention both of those movies. In each case I was forced to watch them under pain of duress. After watching the movies, I concluded that the alternative would have been infinitely better than being forced to sit through those movies again.
Jeff Daniels as Col. Joshua Chamberlain in the recent Gods and Generals.
Anthony Hopkins as Richard Nixon in Nixon.
I can’t name the actors…but there are two scenes that brighten up otherwise horribly unwatchable drek.
“Hardware”, a horror movie about a killer robot reactivating and terrorizing a woman inside her apartment (you heard me right: it all takes place in her apartment), was THE most bad horrible movie that I forced myself to finish just because I’d paid for the rental. Bad bad bad bad mind-numbingly bad, and just when you think it’s over it keeps going.
But there’s one brilliant scene: As the robot attacks a guy, bashing his head against the floor and mutilating him, we see the downstairs neighbor lady banging on the ceiling with a broom about the noise. She walks away muttering in Japanese, “Disgraceful! They aren’t even married!”
Also, if you ever get the chance to see “Spaced Invaders”, watch the opening few minutes up to the starting credits. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but it’s hilarious; the rest is not worth subjecting yourself to.
Kurt Russell in Soldier. He had almost no dialogue and did a superb job with it. The movie as a whole sucked, yet I almost wept for Kurt’s character, Sgt. Todd.
