My dad (who’s account this is) claims the best pizza he ever had was in Las Vegas at a little mom and pop place called Carboni’s (if I spelled it right) in the 70’s. According to him he’s eaten pizza from coast to coast and this was by far the best. Unfortunately its out of business now so I can’t check up on it. The best pizza I’ve had (in my limited time on earth) is Saggio’s here in New Mexico.
Whats the best pizza place you’ve ever been too? What made it so good?
(anyone claiming Pizza Hut or any of the other chains will be forcably ejected from the thread. )
I’ve eaten pizza all over the US, but the one I still love the best is The Pie (AKA The Flying Pie) near the University of Utah in Salt Lake city. The place is the quintessential college Dive, downstairs under a pharmacy with brick-lined walls that have been written on in marker, and with bands playing on weekends. But even without the ambience, the pizza is great.
I’m not a big pizza fan, in fact when it gets suggested, I usually groan. I also make sure that we always order from a place that I can get pasta and salad.
Part of the reason is because it’s been years since I’ve tasted a worthwhile pizza. There was a place near my Aunt’s condo in Honolulu called Magoo’s that I absolutly loved and when I was in college, there was a place that I can’t even remember the name that I used to love. You could get a personal pizza for $2.00 with extra toppings at a quarter. It also let you have extra spices and olive oil for free.
It’s a chain, but not like Pizza Hut or Papa John’s. Best pizza I’ve ever had is at the Mellow Mushroom, a pizza chain started in Atlanta. I go to the one in Nashville, obviously. Meatballs and Banana Peppers.
Non-chain at all? Davinci’s, also here in Nashville. Shrimp and scallop pizza.
I like John’s which on is E64th street (I think) in Manhattan, and of course, I always like Nunzio’s on Staten Island. I am not sure if Nunzios is still there.
When I was in Thessaloniki (in Greece), there was a really good pizzeria on Big Alexander street. I don’t remember the name, since the sign only said Pizza and had a picture of a slice, but it was really good - thin, crisp, pizza margharita style. The only drawback was that if you ordered a sausage pie, they put frankfurters on it.
Look, xtisme’s kid, posting under your dad’s username is a no-no here. I appreciate that you’ve been honest about it, but it’s still against our rules.
If you’re old enough to be posting here, you need your own screen name. If you’re not old enough to be posting here, you shouldn’t be.
I’m going to close this thread, pending clarification from xtisme.
