Best price/longevity bargains?

Cars can be a money pit. Houses are usually a good long-term investment but require a lot of maintainence. Carpets wear out, paint peels or gets dirty, shingles need replacement after 15 or 20 years. Electronics don’t last, some such as computers aren’t good for more than 10 years or so at the most. Clothes wear out unless you don’t wear them often.

What items can you buy for a reasonable cost that tend to last virtually forever? A few things that come to mind:

Silverware (even if it’s not actually silver)
Dishes
Hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, etc.)

I got a bag of pea gravel at Home Depot a few weeks ago for less than $4 that I expect to outlast me.
