Thanks. I bet what I was misremembering was that the ipass had to be registered to specific cars, and that you could not simply “loan” your transponder to a friend or neighbor if their car wasn’t registered to it. ISTR that you previously could do that (but I may well be mistaken.)
I’m thinking of asking about taking a slightly longer time-wise but no-toll alternative if I do this again. I’d prefer to clear this with my company prior to travel rather than after.
No one. You get to enjoy my rants for free.
Well, yeah, how dare I enjoy an ice cream cone paid for by someone else, or use my internet connection for entertainment as well as earning a bit on the side, in fact, how dare I have entertainment or even a day off.
No problem, under other circumstances it might have worked.
^ This.
They really do look at receipts here. In fact, for one restaurant a lot of people from the company involved in this project ate at for breakfast they initially disallowed all receipts because they weren’t happy with how the restaurant did them. I think it took a couple phone calls to get the receipts from there allowed. You see, the receipts weren’t itemized, they just said “Food” and a price. Not good enough for the expense department, they wanted itemized lists with a descriptor.
Putting an I-Pass under meals is just not going to work with these folks.
I asked at work today about I-Passes/E-Z Passes. Apparently, a couple of store directors in training got authorization for a tollway transponder for the six months they were in training and relocated to another store, resulting in fairly frequent trips on tollways between the training location and home. It took special permission from a regional manager type a couple levels above them. Me, I’m about four levels down from store director.
Apparently, the company would rather pay full fare tolls than for an I-Pass. The company made $13 billion last year so I guess they can afford it, it’s not even a rounding error on a rounding error.
I’m leaving for vacation tomorrow and Google said “tolls on route” so I just stuck my I-Pass on the windshield. No having to worry about being in the right lane one mile early for me like all the peasants.
I just love bragging about my extreme wealth.
The company made $13 billion on $15 billion of (estimated) revenue?
An 87% margin is really, really impressive, given that most grocery chains operate somewhere around 2%.
They aren’t just grocery, technically they’re a hypermarket.
And I misspoke - it’s 13 billion in income, not sure how much of that is actual profit.
Or they just assumed that you paid attention while you drove.
I live less than a mile from an IL tollway and am quite used to them. I’ve never seen one that wasn’t immediately followed with at least 1 clearly visible “Miss a toll? You have 7 days to pay!” sign.
If you had to learn about it at an info booth, then I have to agree with Jophiel–you should stay off the expressways.
'Scuze me for thinking that paying attention to rapidly moving traffic to avoid an accident is my first priority. What, you’ve *never *missed a sign while driving?
A sign? Maybe.
The same sign, repeatedly? Can’t say that I have.
When you’re driving you’re expected to focus on more than just the traffic. Ignoring signs in favor of just watching traffic is also a great way to get into an accident.
Like I said: if you can’t focus on more than just the cars around you when you’re driving down an expressway, you shouldn’t be on an expressway.
Good to know that we’re back to “rapidly moving” though, meaning that you would’ve had space to merge. That was, until now, unsettled.
Yeah, well, at this point the thread is just a bunch of jerks nit-picking to prove I’m a terrible driver, so I’m going to ask the mods to close it. I’ll make note of the useful suggestions, and maybe they’ll help someone else, if that someone is willing to pick through the dross.
Pickers gotta pick.
Haters gotta hate…
35+ years of driving, never an accident or ticket, but of course that’s irrelevant when a couple of strangers on the internet “diagnose” bad driving habits based on a single thread.
I’m sure they’re back to complaining in the Pit thread with my name on it again.
You should hear what convicted murderers and sex offenders are saying about me!! Do what I do: Let it roll off your back like a duck!
I look forward to our next meeting! It was fun and the Mrs. and I agree you’re a most charming guest.
Tho I must sadly report the other colt died too. Just too premature. . .
I’m sorry to hear the little guy didn’t make it.
So how was the trip?
Well, aside from the excitment of driving with apparently homicidal commuters with no regard for human life… not too bad overall.
The final trip back between the Milwaukee Summerfest traffic, the several traffic accidents, and the load of tourists for the 4th of July weekend who were also not accustomed to the Trollway “culture” was, however, a dreadful marathon. Over five hours to get home, for what was originally advertised as a 2.5 hour drive. On the other hand, given it was a holiday weekend, I sort of expected that sort of thing.
