Best route to drive to Bears game Thursday night?

I’m sure traffic will be bad no matter which route we take, so I am looking for advice on the lesser of two evils congestion-wise.

We’ll be coming from my friend’s home in Wilmette. 7:00 p.m. game time, so we will be hitting rush hour traffic coming in. My friend is driving, otherwise I would just take the CTA. He has a parking pass, but I don’t know for which lot.

Edens/Kennedy or Lake Shore Drive?

If Edens/Kennedy, where to make the crossover towards the lake?

That’s a tough call. I would probably check Google Maps with Traffic Layer enabled just before leaving and make a last-minute decision.

If you do opt for the Kennedy rather than LSD, I’d suggest getting off at the Stevenson going east (what they call “north”), which takes you directly to LSD just south of Soldier Field.

I live near Wilmette in Evanston and no question I’d take LSD down. Shouldn’t hit any traffic until maybe the north S-curve and from there to Soldier Field really isn’t too much further. It takes forever to get over to 94 from Wilmette and the traffic will be backed up at least to Lawrence, I’d guess. Maybe not that bad on a Sunday but it’s kind of an out of the way direction to go when you can go straight down Lake Shore.

I’d recommend taking Ridge all the way down and then at Peterson work your way down to Hollywood -> Lake Shore. It’s a lot faster than coming down Sheridan, at least from Wilmette/Evanston.

This sounds like the best bet to me too. Whatever you do avoid Sheridan Road between Devon and Hollywood; road work is going on and large parts of Sheridan are reduced to one lane north and south at different times of the day.

Thanks for the advice everybody. We went last night, but I unfortunately forgot Bob’s Ridge Rd advice much to our detriment for the reasons that Kolak of Twilo mentioned. Traffic just crawled from Loyola to the LSD. Other than that, there were no problems.

Ugh, I try to take the train anytime I go. Of course with ticket prices, I haven’t been in two years. :frowning: Bear down!
