You’re reading too far into the statement. Go pick another strawman to beat up. I answered a pointed question on who had been to a concentration camp and how that affected our take on this situation. Draw your implications elsewhere.
Let me get this straight.
Survivor #1: “It’s a fantastic video and I fully endorse it.”
Survivor #2: “It’s a terrible video that is disrespectful.”
Apparently I’m only allowed to agree with Survivor #1 or else I’m dead inside or something. Why exactly?
For what reason is Survivor #2’s opinion disallowed?
This kind of reminds me of the Indian-racism loophole: Find a Native American who will say they are OK with a Native mascot (or whatever) and volia! ALL IS OKAY! It doesn’t matter what any other Native Americans think. :smack:
Disallowed? How do you figure?
The opposite of your position suggests we have to crawl into a hole every time someone finds offense. That would make for a very dull planet.
The video is clearly a celebration of life and not some Cannes festival head scratcher.
Disallowed in so far as you and others have suggested that only someone who is dead inside or is an enemy of happiness would dislike the video. Disallowed in that people who don’t love this video are being made out to be depressing Nazi apologists.
That is a mischaracterization of the anti-video position. I have seen nobody say that Holocaust survivors and their families must be somber and sorrowful allthe time for the rest of their lives. I have seen nobody say that it is wrong that this man is grateful and even joyful to have survived such a terrible ordeal. People are just saying that a visit to a concentration camp is perhaps the wrong time and place for filming a video of your family boogying down to some disco.
Nobody is saying these people, or anyone else, should crawl into a hole and never do anything. But I find it very hard to believe that they didn’t know this would cause some offense. When you create something and make it public, as they have, you are opening yourself up to critizism. It’s a free world, and they can make videos like this if they want. And other people can say it’s inappropriate if they want. I don’t see anyone calling for their arrest or anything.
Then it looks like we’re down to agreeing to disagree.
