Mark Knopfler’s soundtrack to Local Hero.
How about: Bladerunner, Chariots of Fire, The Man From Snowy River, The Natural, Last of the Mohicans and the soundtrack to the PBS series Cosmos.
I’ll second The Crow and ** The Commitments** and also toss in Bring Out the Dead and [The Big Lebowski**.
Ennio Morricone was already mentioned, but the soundtrack to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly rocks.
Also, the soundtrack to the movie Dead Man is awesome. It’s instrumental Neil Young.
The twin Pink Floyd movie soundtracks More and Obscured by Clouds are awesome as well.
I love the soundtrack to Disney’s HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. While the movie was unqualified awful, the soundtrack is filled with chant, kyrie eliasons, dies iraes, etc., and with the annoying “singing gargoyles” omitted makes great background music for those gothic days.
Moulin Rouge of course.
Cool World. It has Thrill Kill Kult, Ministry, The Cult, Bowie, Moby, Future Sounds of London. One of the better ones for its day.

Vote #2 for Singles.
Also, Forrest Gump. Who couldn’t find something on there that they would like?
“The Harder They Come,” with Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytalls, and a host of other old school reggae performers.
“Pressure drop, oh pressure drop, oh pressure’s gonna drop on you…”
The Jerry Seinfield documentary Comedian used snippits from virtually every one of my favorite jazz and rock classics as segues between scenes. A soundtrack album of all those in full length would be on my CD permanently. Too bad I’m positive that’ll never happen.
Vote #2 for Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings music here… I listen to the FOTR and TTT scores constantly these days. Also excellent are James Horner’s score for Sneakers, Thomas Newman’s music for Meet Joe Black, and the Aimee Mann songs for Magnolia.
Also, though the film itself sucked rocks, the music compilation soundtrack for Godzilla is pretty good. I love the Wallflowers’ version of Bowie’s “Heroes.”
The Thomas Crown Affair (the recent one)
really cool, sexy music
The soundtrack from the film Beautiful Girls. Nice mix of kitsch and cool.
Unfortunately it’s elements are cliche now, but I really liked the soundtrack to American Beauty.
I watched CSI last week and remarked to my wife how good I thought the music was, and was wondering who was in charge of it. I wish they would roll songs for the show like they do in the movies. Maybe they did and I missed it.
Definitely my all time favorite soundtrack is for The Man in The Moon with Reese Witherspoon and Sam Waterston. It’s only 35 minutes but it’s 35 minutes of sweet bliss. It’s a nice little movie as well.
Bernard Herrmann’s “Vertigo”
Rocky Horror Picture Show. DUH!
In second place, The Big Chill and Forrest Gump.
Also liked The Crow, but then I’ll buy anything with Jane Sibbery that actually makes it to the U.S.

KIDS- its the BEST music to get ready for a night on the town
YOung Mr. Grace… Dead Man is my most fave movie and the soundtrack is excellent…thumbs up!
Glory is incredibly good. My favorite composers are John Williams and James Horner. O Brother Where Art Thou ranks right up there as well!
