Best Soundtracks

Hey----brand new to the Straight Dope message boards—super cool. Anyway, I wanted to post something, so here goes it:

What is the best soundtrack? It can be movies, television shows, whatever. Personally, I think the “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” soundtrack ranks right up there. Although the “Last of the Mohicans” one is pretty good, too.

Thoughts?

(and if nobody posts I’ll feel bad)

We get this thread topic popping up regularly, but it doesn’t hurt to cover it again.

My #1 favorite soundtrack is Under Fire composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

There are many other favorites, mostly composed by Goldsmith, Ennio Morricone, Maurice Jarre and John Williams.

YES!!! Thank you!!! YOU ARE WONDERFUL!!!
The first reply to my first post! Brilliant!

Additionally: I’m sorry that this has been mentioned before. I didn’t know that.

BUT YOU STILL POSTED AND FOR THAT I AM ETERNALLY IN YOUR DEBT.:cool:

The Whole Nine Yards.

Trust me. I mean it.

Tripler
Charlie Biddle’s daughter? Whatta voice!!

Last of the Mohicans

No question about it. Incredible soundtrack. When I first saw the movie, the music was one of the first things to stand out in my mind.

A Beautiful Mind, composed by James Horner. I could listen to it over and over again.

Cool. More replies. I feel special.

One more to add: “The Matrix.” Propellorheads, Prodigy, Marylin Manson, Rage Against the Machine, etc…

Quite a switch from “Last of the Mohicans,” which I absolutely LOVE, but hey, I’m eclectic.

 I just love these smileys!

Braveheart was pretty swell and since none of you know me personally, Xanadu.

  1. Godfather II, III is pretty good also
  2. The Graduate First LP album I ever purchased
    • Star Wars: A New Hope* the original recording
  3. Ken Burns The Civil War
  4. James Bond movie Thunderball followed closely by Goldfinger

I guess I am showing my age.

The Crow, Almost Famous were reasonaby outstanding.

Singles made a fairly large splash when it came out, bu that was when grunge was All the Rage.

Times Square

As far as non-scores go, I really love the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack. Unlikely, but it’s really good.

Willow, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Titanic, and Little Rascals.

The Rock - listen to that when you play Counterstrike or something like it.

Dragonheart - because it has that cheesy theme that I love

The Polaris album, “Music from the Adventures of Pete and Pete” is fantastic. Almost as good as the series itself was.

Last time this popped up I went with “Elizabeth.”

I’d add “Amistad” to the list now too.

o brother where art thou?

Pulp Fiction and The Commitments are the only 2 I own so I guess they are my top soundtracks

Dave Grusin’s amazing piano on The Firm. I was so entranced every time he started up I got to the end of the film and realised I’d missed half of it. Had to go back to the cinema the next week.

(In fact, I’ve just found it and I think I’ll stick it on…)
