If someone is 50 and wants to retire, but is too young for medicare do any of the states have health programs that are better for that kind of person to consider?
I know Vermont is instituting a single payer type plan, but that isn’t until 2017. Not only that but I seriously doubt Vermont is going to allow anyone who wants to move into the state and take advantage of the health plan (without having paid into the state’s taxes). But I would assume the Vermont plan, when it matures, will be cheaper and more comprehensive than private insurance.
Do any states offer state level (or any cities offer city level) plans that are more comprehensive, cheaper, etc. than what can be bought under the federal ACA law?
San Francisco has a health plan, but the cost of living in SF is probably higher than the savings of joining their city plan. Plus I have no idea if the SF plan is better than the ACA.
This is assuming the person wants to stay domestic to the US and not relocate to central america for health care.
