My TV viewing time is strongly skewed towards movies and not ongoing series. Right now, Netflix is my favorite because they have the widest range of movies that I know of. My question to the Cafe is, am I right? If so, what are the other best streaming services for movies, or are they all pretty much the same?
What kind of movies do you like. I think HBOMax has the best selection of movies as it includes TCM classic movies.
Disney+ obviously has the Disney vault, Star Wars and MCU.
I don’t think the streamers are at all the same. Netflix is better than Prime but probably not as good as the other 2 I listed.
It will depend on what kinds of movies you like. The movies HBO shows is different from the movies Starz shows is different from the movies Paramount shows.
I like “big screen” movies, action movies, suspense and espionage.
HBOMax is probably the best for general big mainstream movies.
Tubi also has a wide selection, they are free but are ad-supported.
Thanks, peeps, it looks like I should add HBO Max and DIsney +, and then I think I’ll be good to go.
If you have an extra thirty, forty bucks, get a Roku (one-time payment for the device, no subscription) to access free channels like The Roku Channel, Tubi, Crackle, and FreeVee (formerly IMDB-TV), along with about a bazillion channels for old movies.
I have a Roku UHD TV. I should be able to get that already?
I can’t say first-hand, but I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t be able to.
Just for the record, you don’t need a Roku to access those free channels, most types of streaming devices should offer them also. I have a Firestick and I have access to all those channels.
Firestick covers so much and they’re very inexpensive.
I’m really glad I asked because it appears that all of you know way more than I do!
I was dubious, but yes, you can install the Roku channel on Firestick.
It was in fact painless.
I am envious that you find so many films on Netflix to watch. I ended up unsubscribing a couple of months ago after going over a year since last watching a film there.
I have 22 films in my LetterboxD watchlist, things from Sunset Boulevard to My Cousin Vinny, and exactly -0- are available on Netflix. These are not esoteric art films; everything mainstream. 2 of them are on HBOMax (which I have, free), and the rest (excep;t for 2 not available anywhere) I’d have to pay to rent.
“My Cousin Vinny” is a fabulous movie, and I just watched it again last week, but that was on my U-verse cable. I pay a ridiculous amount of money for home entertainment, about $300 a month, but the upside is that I have access to a ton of movies.
I have all the HBO channels but do not get HBO Max for free. My question is, how do you get it for free? Now, it’s my turn to be envious! LOL
If you’re gonna do that, you may as well look into the Hulu-Disney bundle. Hulu is not big on movies (they do have some), but at 2 extra a month, it’s hard to turn down.
Hey, “in for a penny, in for a pound”, right?
If you have all the HBO channels , you may be able to sign into HBO Max using the cable company’s log-in information - it’s only “free” when you have HBO through cable, etc.
I do have all the HBO channels in the 450 package of U-verse, and I did have HBO Max for free. Then, it was taken away from me. When I try to access it, it wants me to subscribe. I know contracts between providers and networks change, so maybe HBO wanted more money and AT&T wouldn’t pay it.
