Best TV Theme song

That’s My Bush!

*He’s the president in resident
He’s kind of in charge
He’s got the whole country singing:
That’s my bush!

Life is hard at the price of fame
When you’re president, everyone knows your name
Hey what’s that thing?
It’s my bush!

I can’t believe he’s actually in the White House
That’s our maaaan…

That’s my bush…
Ohhhh, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah.*

Love the “can’t believe he’s actually in the white house” line.

“Riverboat ring your bell
Fairthee well Annabell
Luck is the lady that he loves the best…”
“Maverick is the name”

They just had a “Western” marathon on TVLand last week. The “Maverick” theme song is damned catchy. Also, the tune to “Alias Smith and Jones” (also part of the marathon).

also:
“Cheers”
“The Waltons” (composed by Jerry Goldsmith, sigh)
“Now and Again” (nifty sf series just recently screwed over by Sci Fi) has a GREAT theme song. I always made sure I watched the credits - just loved that song.
“Star Trek - Voyager” (Jerry Goldsmith, again. Did you know that “Voyager” won the Emmy instead of “Friends”, which it was up against that year? Ha!)
“Farscape” - this theme is starting to grow on me.
Another vote for “Rockford Files”.
and, “All in the Family”.

In two days, no one’s mentioned Car 54 (where are you)?

Does the music to Hockey Night in Canada qualify for this thread? If so, you have your “Best TV Theme Song”.

DAH dah da daaaaaa,
DAH dah da dah, DAAA, daaaaaaaaaa!

Well, somebody did mention Dallas. I like that one so much, I used to turn on the TV at 8pm just to hear it, then turn off the TV to miss the idiotic show.
Green Acres is the best sing-along, bar none.

And the Bugs & Daffy theme from a few years ago…

(overture, dim the lights, this is it, we’ll hit the heights…ya know what hights we’ll hit…on with the show this is it!!)

I think this thread got my musical brain seizures going at least as much as the “what song keeps going through your brain” thread over at (I think) MPSIMS…

If you were very lucky, you got to see the pilot episode in the movie theaters, where they played the whole theme song with lyrics.

If you only saw it on TV, you got to hear the lyrics to the first verse of the theme song, during the end credits, maybe.

No music ever got a viewer into a better state of mind for watching a show than the whistling tune for the Mayberry / Andy Griffith Show.

No song ever introduced the viewers to the characters and situtation better than Gilligan’s Island.

Rockford Files’ theme music is so cool, it’s on it’s own level.

The theme for MAS*H always made me snicker because the lyrics are about suicide.

Six Feet Under

Wait, no one’s mentioned Wonder Woman?!!

*Wonder Woman! Wonder Woman!
All the world is waiting for you!
And the power you possess.
In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old red-white-and-blue!

Wonder Woman! Wonder Woman!
Now the world is ready for you!
And the wonders you can do.
Make a hawk a dove!
Stop a war with love!
Make a liar tell the truth!

(ca 1974 funk-horns-piano)

Wonder Woman! Get us up from under, Wonder Woman!
All our hopes are pinned upon you!
And the magic that you do.
Stop a bullet cold!
Make the axis fold!
Change your mind, and change the world!

Wonder Woman! Your a wonder, Wonder Woman!*
One minute and forty seconds at the beginning were better than an entire season’s worth of scripts!

What about Alice? I always kinda liked that one, especially when I learned that Linda Lavin (a great actress) sang it herself.

And what about MAUDE, for chrissakes?

That uncompromising, enterprising, anything-but-tranquilizing, right-on Maude!

No Alfred Hitchcock Presents, either?

Indeed. MST3K’s theme also deserves consideration for its wonderful ending:

If you’re wondering how he eats and breathes,
And other science facts,
Then repeat to yourself, “It’s just a show;
I should really just relax!”
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!

And I have to second whoever nominated the Blackadder theme, in all its incarnations.

All right, you asked for it:

Angie

*Leeeeeeet the time go,
Let the love grow,
Let the rain show’r,
Let the rose flow’r,
Love it conquers, love it binds,
Love it seeks, and … love it finds!

Come to each other from a diff’rent world,
Drawn to each other by the love inside of us,
Give to each other our diff’rent worlds,
Long as we can do it,
Life’ll let us breeze right through it!

Leeeeeeet the time go,
Let the love grow,
Let the rain show’r,
Let the rose flow’r,
Love it conquers, love it binds,
Love it seeks, and … love it finds!
Oo oo oo oo,
Oooooo, oo oo oo OOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oooooo, oo oo oo oooooo!
Love it conquers, love it binds,
Love it seeks, and … love it /
Love it conquers, love it binds,
Love it seeks, and … love it finds!*

Funny you should mention this, because in Sunnyvale, near where I live, there’s a street called Maude Avenue.

Several times while driving somewhere in Sunnyvale, I’ve had to make a right on Maude!!
