OK! I HAVE A 1979 VW westy Camper, mint condition…now im wonderign what vw i should restore next, i want something good…new or old…but I prefer old…;j ;j ;j :dubious:
I had a VW Jetta GL 1984. I loved that car. It was my first and it still ran by the time I sold it at the age of 17. I bought the car in 1995…Memories…
My first car was a '59 Beetle that I bought in 1982. It was in absolutely original condition, and resplendent in her ‘Gunyah Grey’ coat, she was a beauty. None of these ‘mod-cons’ like fuel gauges or tachometres for the early Beetles…the only thing to grace the dashboard was a speedo.
I dunno if it was the ‘best’ Dubber of all time but I preferred it to the Type 3’s and the Kombi’s I owned in later years.
You gotta have a beetle. A real one with the engine in back and a 4 speed manual.
I’d try to find something out of the ordinary:
Old Beetle with semaphore turn signals
27-window bus
Karmann Ghia
Notchback
Thing
Oh. Has anyone owned a VW Thing before? Does it give as much joy to the owner as it gives to those who stare longingly at it from the street?
drool
Double cab pickup, circa mid-late 60s (not clear on date). Please, please, if someone knows where I can get one of these in the Midwest (restored), let me know.
Fastback – best car we had growing up! Until my half brother totalled it.
“Does it give as much joy to the owner as it gives to those who stare longingly at it from the street?”
Yep, if they can avoid falling parts… never turned out to be as reliable as they said they would be I guess, otherwise we would see more.
A vw bug with a Rolls Royce kit was fun.
I owned three VWs, a 74 wagon that had a hole cut out of the engine cover in the back to accommodate a Weber carb air filter; a 69 Ghia that was painted 8 shades of “BMW orange” to cover all the layers and locations of Bondo–that too had a Weber-type carb and ran pretty quick; and finally a 77 Bus that served us well for 10 years and many miles. I still have an occasional dream in which the bus appears–and I always wake up smiling.
I have heard that the 4WD Westy Vans from the mid-80s still command decent prices.
Awww. Well, better that I found out sooner than later.
hey! i have gor soemthing! 2 good 2 turn down. a old guy was sellign his 1971 vw single cab truck! mint condition for 800 dolars.as i said…2 good 2 turn down. NO RUST! 2859cc engine! HEAT!!! OMG IT HAS HEAT! and a 8track…i luv it soooooo much…
As I mentioned in another VW thread, our family had eight VW’s in the late 60s and early 70s, including seven Beetles. And my sister 'n law has a 2002 Beetle. Way too many. They were good, but not that good. Although the '02 is really nice.
But as far as the best goes, I would go with the Karman Ghia – any year. The worlds slowest sports car. There really wasn’t anything like it. VW should think about a limited edition 21st century version.
