Best way to track my Android phone's location?

I have a Motorola Droid X with Verizon.

I recently bought a jet ski and I like to ride around Boston Harbor, and my father worries a lot about my safety there.

My Droid X has signal in all the areas I’ve been to so far…I don’t go very far offshore.

I’m looking for some kind of app to allow my father to go online and see my current location. Latitude and longitude would be ideal, I think.

Some site that he could easily pass his username and password to the Coast Guard in an emergency would be even better.

I don’t need a secret app; I don’t mind if the phone indicates it’s being tracked.

My father does not have an Android phone; he’d be online at his computer.

I’ve never used one so I can’t recommend anything, but there’s plenty of high-rated apps in the market that could do what you want:

What about Google Latitude? I don’t know how fine the location resolution is, I’ve never used it but it does have a pc version so your Dad could use it from home. And it’s free AFAIK.

As an aside: A smartphone seems like an odd choice for the job. Can you power it from the jet ski (the GPS will suck a lot of power)? Can it get a good GPS reading from its mount? Doesn’t it get wet? If you should become capsized or such, will it float and will it still work?

If stuff like that matters, consider something like the SPOT Personal Tracker instead, specifically designed for personal location tracking. It includes a one-button SOS mode if you need help, no waiting for Dad necessary.
