Best website for cheap plane tickets

I need to cancel a trip to Sacramento this morning. I was going to give a guy a ride back to Los Angeles on my return trip. I plan to just buy him a plane ticket instead. Any idea best airline for a cheap plane ticket?

Go to kayak.com, orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, or any other major travel website. Also check Southwest, which is typically separate from those sites. You aren’t going to find major differences in prices among those websites.

Thanks those looked pretty good.

I’ve never used it, but I’ve heard priceline.com will give you the cheapest rates.

BUT, and this is why I’ve never used them, with Priceline you have to commit to buying your tickets without knowing for sure about the details. IOW you give them a varying range of criteria (departure & arrival dates & times, stops, airports etc.) and the maximum you want to spend, and then it finds the best match (if possible). Kind of all or nothing, it doesn’t come back with different options to choose from like the other sites, you enter your credit card info first, click commit, then it finds and buys the cheapest one that’s the best match and sends you the itinerary (I assume you can’t make changes).

I’m not comfortable with that. I want to pick out my actual seat…

Priceline is great for hotels and cars, if you read up on how to bid effectively. I agree I will never use it for flights.

That’s if you use their “Name your price” option. If you don’t click on that box, it’s the same as any of the other sites, giving you multiple flight choices & specifics including departure/arrival info.
OP, once you find a flight you like on one of the generic sites, go to that airline’s website & plug in identical flight choices, not often but sometimes it’s cheaper there.

Yes, this can be true. I did this the last time I booked a flight, started off on Travelocity but I think there were banner ads for the actual airline’s website there. Went to them and it was just as easy and a little cheaper. Guess it only took the airlines a decade or so to catch onto this whole internet thingy…
