I’ve been asked to setup a website for my kid’s soccer team. They had one hosted on GoDaddy, but the club treasurer ran off with some funds and the username/password so we are back to square one. Back in the day, I hand-coded HTML for my own sites. That was fun then and I’m not so much interested in doing that stuff anymore. I’m looking for a web host with plenty of tools for creating and maintaining a simple site with 5 or 6 pages tops. No need for SQL or more than a few email addresses. Anyone have any recommendations?

I recently signed up with dreamhost and so far have been impressed with them. They came highly recommended from several sources.
I recommend Dreamhost for hobby sites, and either Rackspace or MediaTemple for business sites that require more reliable uptime. If you were to decide on Dreamhost, let me know first as I can get you a sizeable discount.

Or maybe Wordpress.com if you don’t want to code your own page; they’ll take care of hosting and the backend for you and you can just concentrate on putting up actual content. It’s meant for blogging, but it’ll work for regular pages too. You can also pay a small amount to use your own domain name with them.
I got to messing around with Google Sites and so far haven’t found anything I wanted to do that I couldn’t. I’ll snoop around DreamHost for completeness sake.

Dreamhost has “one-click” installs for a variety of platforms, including WordPress. The hosted version of WordPress (.com) is free, but severely limited.
