Betty Boop is back!

In graphic novel format. Looking through the preview pages, it’s very much in the style of the pre-Code films.

The artist, Gisele Lagace, does one of my favorite webcomics(Ménage à 3) and several Archie comics, including the Archie Meets The Ramones one-shot.

So is she still schtupping a dog or is she being unfaithful by letting Koko in her inkwell?

(I really don’t get this habit of reinterpreting rubberhose characters with bone and muscle structure.)

Don’t forget that she herself was canine before she morphed into a humanoid.

It’s too bad that modern Archie doesn’t use that style anymore, as she totally rocks that style, while also adding a bit of anime influence (for Zii and especially Yuki).
Is she a style chameleon?

Roger Langridge writing it? I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. The guy is GOOD!

(Anybody cat “Snarked,” the lovely Carrollian re-telling? Beautiful!)

(I’ll buy pert’ near anything written by Roger Langridge or Jimmy Palmiotti. They are able to turn out high-quality writing on a wholly dependable basis.)

Well, the artworks beats the appalling, stiff style they used for her syndicated strip back in the 1930s ( https://www.google.com/search?q=Betty+Boop+newspaper+comics&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjlt4-w993UAhXGeSYKHcQlAaUQ_AUIBigB&biw=1440&bih=708#imgrc=8kl_fTJ0kSUvZM:&spf=1498563319055 ) and her more recent foray several years back ( https://www.google.com/search?q=Betty+Boop+newspaper+comics&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjlt4-w993UAhXGeSYKHcQlAaUQ_AUIBigB&biw=1440&bih=708#imgrc=bNuKDSZYW_SaeM:&spf=1498563319058 )

At the end of the second edition of Leslie Cabarga’s wonderful book The Fleischer Story there are a couple of “updated” Bettys drawn by the original Betty cartoonists, including one by Grim Natwick. They would’ve been interesting to see in a continued strip. (Natwick also did a nude Betty in recent years. See here – https://www.google.com/search?q=Betty+Boop+updated+Grim+Natwick&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjB-ILp993UAhWCOSYKHWL0Bt0Q_AUIBigB&biw=1440&bih=708&dpr=1#imgrc=p7xDaLi8iCPVSM:&spf=1498563469479 )

I might have to have a look at this book. I haven’t been happy with any “recent” bettys, but it’s hard to recapture the mood and feel when your original is rooted decades in the past.

Hmmm. “Some pages are omitted from this book preview.” Is that where the, um, pre-code images are? 'Cause up until about 1936 there was little difference in the animation style, save for costume mishaps and a certain amount of sheerness, neither of which are in evidence in the sample (garter not withstanding).

Oh, really? The Code wasn’t enforced until '34, by the way.

IOW, everything out of Hollywood prior to July of 1934 is considered “pre-Code” and she’s definitely not wearing anything post-Code in the preview pages.

Really?

Pre-code, her costume was almost always a strapless, black, very short dress, as exemplified in Snow White (1933). Compare that with her outfit in A Little Soap and Water (1935). I’d say the pix in the book match the latter outfit more (albeit with more cleavage) than the former.

In any event, in case I have to spell it out, I was referring more to when her costume comes off exposing her undies, like Old Man of the Mountain, or is missing all together as in Is My Palm Read (stick around for more undies fan service).

Of course, there’s her topless Pacific islander in Bamboo Isle (skip to 6:23 for the rotoscoped hula), or the diaphanous nightgown in Red Hot Mama (a highlight).

And if you like color, there’s the two-strip Technicolor of Poor Cinderella.

Seconded! Definitely throwing this one on the “to buy” list.

I’ve met Langridge, too - very briefly at the end of an SPX in Bethesda, must have been 2005 or 2006. He was idly sketching Popeye punching a Goon; I complimented him on it and he said I could have it. I refused to take it without buying something from him, so now I have a signed Langridge tucked neatly away in a folder on my comics shelf alongside one of his graphic novels.

I should get it framed sometime…

What? You really think an apron over a knee-length dress with a back looks like the backless thigh-length outfit in the preview pages?

In any event, was referring to the outfit as a whole, not what happens to it.

BTW: I have over 100 Betty videos on my iPod. No need to link anything.

Betty Boop was buds with Puddles Pity Party?

Not everybody reading this thread does, though.
