Piers Morgan and Oprah had their voices used by a scammer. I hope the lies catch up enough to punish this kind of thing if they haven’t already. I will say that I’m much more concerned about her than him.
As deepfakes improve, which they will, it will become harder and harder to tell them from the real thing. Lots of people will be fooled in the meantime, making the deepfakers lots of money. Unfortunately the genie is now out of the bottle.
Might there be the silver lining where the real Oprah and Piers Morgan lose credibility?
Oprah has been targeted before, without the deepfake.
I’m more concerned about people being duped in the upcoming election by deceptive deepfakes.
Is there something weird on my end? Because what I saw were two videos of Oprah and Piers Anthony clearly saying something completely different, with not even a token attempt to line up their mouths with the words being said. I mean, I guess it could have been deepfaked (i.e. digital face replacement), but why would you bother if you can’t get the mouths to match?
As for the voices, Oprah sounded off, with no enthusiasm. But I also haven’t heard her speak in a long time. The Brits sounded like plausible people, but, while I’ve heard them speak before, I’m not all that familiar with how they normally sound.
Honestly, it seems like a rather poor attempt. The deepfake Elon Musk that would show up on hacked YouTube channels was far more convincing, and that is older tech.
Oh, and for the record, Matthew 17:21 says (in the King James Version)

It is talking about demons that Jesus’s disciples couldn’t cast out. It was removed in newer translations because it is not in the earliest Matthew manuscripts, but is in the parallel story in Mark. So it’s not even been removed from the Bible.
