Bible John- Glasgow

I’m talking of the serial killer in Glasgow.

Linky.

I watched a show on this last night and also had a brief discussion with **Hermette **who resides in Glasgow. She mentions that the killer is well remembered.

There is some thought that Peter Tobin, a creep who murdered a few young girls may indeed have been Bible John. I really have doubts as the methodology was quite different and (unless there were unreported killings) there is a substantial time gap.

I also wonder why the only known person to have seen Bible John did not give a positive recognition of Tobin. She died in 2010, three years after his arrest.

Also, DNA from the victims clothes did not come from Tobin. I acknowledge this doesn’t clear him, it just doesn’t convict him.

Any thoughts?

I still suspect him but have absolutely no proof

As mentioned in PMs, he was in prison for some of the time-gap, and married for some of the rest of it, which I think tends to correspond with drops in activity in other serial killers.

Link to the only person to have seen Bible John (and lived to tell the tale) please?

It was Helen Puttocks sister Jean. She is mentioned on the wiki article. She doesn’t have a page of her won.

There was something on the BBC several years ago about a DNA test on an unrelated crime (around 2006 perhaps?) turning out to be very close to the Bible John profile. Has anything new come of this?

You may be thinking of Peter M. I think the DNA cleared him.

Just something I came across while looking this up.

Story.

Turns out that there’s mention of it on the wiki page now. Apparently a minor crime in 2002 produced DNA that was a fairly close match, and that the police were intending to test a number of people. That’s it, though.

Interesting!

“In fact she believes a man Tobin knew at the time could have been the violent devil who has eluded police for decades.”

Hermette, for you.

Just regards the death of the witness.

Is it wrong of me to wonder what her cause of death was?

Okay, ignorance fought, Tobin was not Bible John! I wonder why he did stop killing then? Or did he move elsewhere and continue?

One other thing sort of gets me. In the killings Tobin was convicted of, they were young girls- at least considerably younger (eldest was 23 I think). Of his three wives two were teenagers and one was about 2 years older than him. He seemed to have a thing for young girls. yet the Bible John victims were all older than him and some quite a deal older. One was 32- when you are 23 that can be a big difference. It doesn’t seem to add up.
