Bible prophecy

You just don’t get it, do you?

Because it was written in stunning detail centuries before it happened.

And secular science has PROVEN this.

As you can clearly see in Isaiah 53, he was clearly prophesied to grow up and then be executed as an innocent man BEFORE even becoming a King.

So just that we’re all on the same page…

For 4000+ years, god has been laying down the laws.
Then, for a little PR, god sends his own son down.
Jesus looks around and says, “You know what dad? You’ve been doing it all wrong! Here’s how I think we should run this place…”
Tries it. Upsets a bunch of people enough that they end up lynching him.
Rises. Becomes a holy ghost. Ascends back to heaven to become god again. And leaves everybody in utter confusion about whether or not adulterers should be stoned or not.

And all you’ve got to say to that is, OT rules need not apply!

Well, he’s now using bigger letters, so it must be true.

I hate when I forget to do that in a debate.

You will get your chance to discuss it with Him face to face one day.

You might consider reading the whole book before dismissing it.

There is no reason to get defense, I’m just highlighting the more specific verses for you.

If you don’t believe and you don’t care, it shouldn’t bother you at all.

Oh dear.

Lionheartlamb, speaking as a Christian, you’re embarrassing me in front of my friends.

I suggest reading some past threads on this board about the Bible, where you’ll often find reasoned, scholarly discussion about the scriptures from believers and non-believers alike.

You’re not likely to find anyone here swayed by claims that OT prophecies predict the future like some kind of ancient Near East Nostradamus. There are quite a few nonbelievers here who know more about the bible than most Christians do. Which is why I like it here.

Psalm 22:14-18

I
15
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.

16
For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
17
I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me.
18
They divide My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.

Verse 27

All the ends of the world
Shall remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the families of the nations
Shall worship before You.[d]
28
For the kingdom is the Lord’s,
And He rules over the nations.

I’m sharing some of the most well know and famous prophecies in the bible. Prophecies that are taught by almost every major prophecy scholar on the planet.

That is exactly what we are supposed to be doing. (2Peter 1:19-20)

No Christian should ever have a problem with sharing the prophecies in the Word of God.

Too many single star reviews on Amazon.

We are sure going to find out one day, aren’t we?

Sorry, Skammer, you’re apparently no true Scotsman.

Been waiting for 2000 years - last I checked, all them dudes died waiting too. (and they were told they would not).

oh, yeah ‘spiritual this, handwave that’ - yada yada yada.

No, it wasn’t. Firstly, it wasn’t stunning detail, it was vague and poetic detail. Secondly, what was written about what happened was written in order to fit that prior detail. If there was an age old prophecy that I wanted a certain person to fit, it would be easy as pie to write about that person’s life after they died in such a way as to make it fit said prophecy. That is exactly what happened here.

Thirdly, if you want to make this claim you need to prove it. As the original documents have long since been lost and as I’m fairly certain you were not there during the writing of the various gospels, you have no proof of this that I’ve seen.

The bible is the most changed and edited book of all time, and there are reams of evidence to demonstrate that.

No, it hasn’t, and you haven’t yet demonstrated how it has.

I’ll tell you what secular science HAS proven however:

It’s proven the Flood never happened.
It’s proven the massive taxation and census never happened.
It’s proven the Exodus and destruction of the army of Egypt in the Red Sea never happened.
It’s proven that insects have more than four legs.
It’s proven that bats aren’t birds.

And while it can’t prove a negative, I’m pretty sure science is of the stance that unicorns don’t exist despite being mentioned in the bible over a dozen times.

I’m a follower of Christ and the Word of God.

I spent almost 40 years denying it. Then I sat down and began reading and studied the whole book for myself. INCLUDING the prophets.

Needles to say, I now KNOW very few actually do. Even most preachers only study a select few books.

I can discuss the Scriptures with a person for less than 5 minutes and know if they have truly studied them, or just went to Sunday school as a kid and never stuidied as an adult…

Unfortunately, merely being well known and famous doesn’t make something TRUE.

As well as the prophecies of Nostrodamus, Muhammed, the Sanskrit Puranas of the Hindu religion, the prophecies concerning Buddha, the Zoroastrian prophecies, etc.
Merely being well-known, famous, or studied/taught by scholars does not make something TRUE.

Then let’s discuss and we’ll see if that holds true. You can start by answering some of my questions I asked above.

We sure will.

Hint: The jews were right.

The problem with this argument is the prophecies were NOT written after His death, they were written centuries before he was ever born. Even predicting the tiny little town He would be born in.

I know it a tough pill for some to swallow at first, but we have copies of every book of the OT that predate Christ by centuries.

We have the multiple sources in multiple languages like the Greek translation in about 200 BC and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The words have not been changed after the fact to fit the story.

We know this is a FACT, because we have finds like the Famous Isaiah Scrolls.

Don’t take my word for it, google it for yourself.
