I axed this question a while back and got some well-intentioned and humorous responses, but I think most people did not really understand the question I was asking. I’ll just c&p the relevant portion:

When Daniel translates “upharsin,” it is rendered as ‘peres.’

I heard this explanation once, but I was never able to corroborate it:

The “u” prefix is a conjunction indicating “and.”
“Peres” is the singular form of “pharsin.”

Accurate?

Sounds right. I checked the original text, and that’s what it looks like.

(Off topic- Google Translate trying to render Aramaic into English when it thinks it’s translating Hebrew is pretty funny).
