Biden finally calls out the MAGAs

This was also good: imagined Tucker Carlson response to Biden

Agreed. The point is, he would never wind up apologizing anyway, because they will never apologize first for anything they’ve ever done.

Project Lincoln sez

It sounds like he left some space between the MAGA Republicans and other Republicans. Hopefully, the latter will use the space to distance themselves from the former. Keep in mind any schism, no matter how small, can be exploited - this is keenly important in key purple states and districts.

Reading Twitter, which is on fire today, I conclude that the most logical response to GOP outrage is “Biden was specifically NOT talking about you if you’re a Republican who believes in the rule of law, majority rule, non-violent protest, and democracy. He spent most of the speech drawing that distinction. The only reason to be offended by his speech is if you oppose those things, in which case, you’re an authoritarian racist, and my enemy.”

So far, the one’s I’ve heard have “decided” not to hear that distinction.

The better to fool you with my dear.

Most of the Trump supporters I know personally say they like him because he “tells it like it is” and “isn’t afraid to speak his mind.”

I’m guessing they will find Biden doing the same is distasteful and mean.

This. Up until now, the Democrats have been like a football team with stronger, faster players, but with a strategy of run on 1st down, run on 2nd down, short pass on 3rd down, punt on 4th down, then repeat on the next possession, over and over. They’ve finally changed up the strategy, and that’s a good thing.

Still on fire

So the Seahawks over the past decade.

…And just like them, a change isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Well, remember what happens if you pass on second down.

Carry on.

It’s no different to when Clinton said that half of Republicans were bigots, and the Republicans responded by insisting that, no, they were all of them deplorable.

I noticed that NPR mentioned how many Republicans were taking it, but the reporters noticed that Biden did differentiate more than Clinton did, implying that “normal” Republicans now are just maliciously protesting too much.

The trouble is that NO Republican can afford to align with or agree with anything Biden says even if he is paying the Not-So-Bad Republicans the compliment of being not-so-bad. The Republican mission, from the most rabid MAGAT to the most sensible centrist, is to oppose-oppose-oppose anything a Democrat says, even if it’s something they secretly believe and agree with.

I think it’s more that he’s leaving the space, but knows the vast majority won’t take it, and thus can use that against them. It leaves room for his calls for unity, while allowing him to say that unity with (semi)fascists is not possible.
