Biden v Trump. Why? Please explain to an Aussie

How many times do we have to say this? President of the United States is not an entry-level position. Stewart is a great guy, but he’s a comedian, not a statesman.

I get that but at this point I just want to win and worry about the rest later.

“Just win, never mind what comes next” sounds a lot like recent GOP campaigns, y’know.

Desperate times, etc. If Stewart were an unhinged lunatic sure, but I think he’s grounded enough to simply sit still as VP and bring over young voters who can make a difference and turn the corner.

Stewart’s smart enough to know it would be seen as an unserious gimmick if he were catapulted directly to the head of the ballot. Though a Senate seat a-la-Franken…

As an American voter, I resemble this remark.

re: dementia. A quick and easy way to distinguish forgetfulness vs. dementia.

  1. I was just holding my car keys, where did I put them? Forgetfulness

  2. Forgetting you have a car. Dementia

I haven’t seen anything to indicate the latter. Confusing two people’s names or countries is forgetfulness (he knows, just not in that moment). Not remembering the person at all or not remembering there is an actual country X is dementia. *I’m not a doctor, but this is in the realm of correct.

What I do see, is Biden looking frail. He shuffles more. He looks like an old man. Also can sound frail. Contrasting to Trump, who does not look like an old man - even though they are similarly aged (if you don’t take the Presidency serious I guess that doesn’t age you like the other Presidents). So, when you look old, and then make an obvious mistake, it’s not a good look and gets reported over and over.

So Biden should embrace it. Just say he is old and that he is capable of doing the job (don’t use “but”). Both are true. And then list his accomplishments of this last term, there are many (As the oldest President, I did all this…) - he did. And then say what he will do when elected (or not do, like steal an election), his job record backs up the claim that he can do it. To me, since it’s going to be Biden, that’s the best you can do.

Well, I was suggesting as the VP not the top of the ballot, but yes a NY Senate seat seems a lot more reasonable.

It’s weird I’m looking at a country under continual attack by its larger better-armed neighbor with envy because they have a president who was a comedian.

That’s… a good point. This truly is the strangest timeline.

Oooh. Nice.

That background, I would argue, is Zelensky’s cross to bear.

I hope you mean New Jersey. Jon is a New Jersey guy and resident and lives not too far from me. We even have a Senate Seat opening up soon thanks to the super-corrupt Bob Mendendez.

If Jon Stewart ran I’d vote for him as many times as I could.

Don’t be piggish. 3 or 4 times is plenty.

Hillary (born 1947) is a Boomer. She’s a year younger than Bill and the Orange one (and George W. Bush) and the same age as Mitt Romney.

Bernie Sanders is older than Biden.

Of course. I get you flyover states all mixed up /s

That’s a lifetime dosage, right? No per day or per week.

Yep. Biden is the trump beater.

Booker is batchit insane. Door to door confiscations of assault weapons?

But you forget Harris, Newsom, and Abrams. All much more well known than any of those three.

The reason why we have Joe Biden today is trump. Besides- Biden has really done a solid job as President. Why kick out a winner due to age?

Yep. Steward has some weird ideas and moments, he could turn out to be another trump.

This is not true, Over half the Voters voted for Biden over trump.

While I appreciate the intent of the generational determiner, I have a disagreement with my sister over this matter. Generations are fuzzy group determiners basically only useful in the aggregate. They can tell trends of behavior and trends of thought based on common social/ cultural experiences during their formative years. As such, the lines are very blurry.

Add to it that we don’t really know what makes a generation break until years later, and what to call the generation until after that. This we get such descriptive monikers like Gen Y and Gen Z. (Gen X doesn’t count, that label was descriptive. Y and Z were just the next letters.)

As such, I submit that children who were born during WW2 grew up with the same post war experiences as the nominal Boomers, and that they have more in common with Boomers than people who reached adulthood around the time of WW2. I submit that my parents, born in '40 and '42 are Boomers. Heck, even my Uncle born in '37 is more a Boomer than not.

Ok, hijack over.

Jon Stewart has returned to The Daily Show for one episode per week. Last night was his first episode now that he has returned. In that episode he pretty much wrecks Biden for his age. Trump too but more Biden. Overall he notes both are too old for this job. Later, he interviews Zanny Minton Beddoes who is the editor-in-chief of The Economist and she agrees. She notes she likes Biden and thinks he has done a good job but he should not run again. Beddoes and Stewart think Trump, while also too old, is just all kinds of wrong.

Stewart notes this is not ageism.
