I hope she takes the opportunity to tell Pence to extract his head out of Trump’s ass and spend the rest of his life in shame filled reflection, atoning for his sins.
I know that others have answered this, but I want to explain for those who don’t understand the political landscape of California.
There isn’t a wisp of a chance that this “opens” a seat for a Republican. The seat that Harris occupies has been occupied by a Democrat for the last 41 years.
How blue is California? Along with all the executive offices, Democrats hold a super majority in the legislature.
Our other Senator, Dianne Feinstein, has held her seat for the last 18 years and won a squeaker in 2018 55/45 against another Democrat (that’s right, no Republican earned enough votes to run against her). I say squeaker because against Republicans she generally runs something like 65/35 in the general election.
Harris is probably the safest Senator for Biden to choose with respect to holding onto the seat for the party.
I’m fine with Harris as Veep. She may not be as progressive as some, Biden + Harris is a hell of a lot more progressive as what we’ve got now. Her background as a prosecutor may paint her as thuggish in some eyes, but Biden + Harris is a hell of a lot less thuggish than what we’ve got now.
For those who have had more than enough of the Trump regime, let’s not let the perfect be the enemy of the really reasonably decent, eh?
Please… She got destroyed by TULSI GABBARD in the debates and basically killed her campaign.
Look, I don’t think Harris’s debate is going to make or break Biden’s campaign, and I think she’s an all around good choice for running mate. But yes, Gabbard did come out of that exchange looking like the better of the two, and Gabbard shares significant similarity with Pence in her speaking style - they’re both COLD. Again - I detest everything Pence stands for. But I think all these people (and I already see their Facebook posts) salivating over the impending destruction of Pence in the VP debate, are going to be very sadly disappointed. The guy’s a brick wall.
Exactly. I don’t know where all this “she’ll eat them up in the debates” comes from. Hillary didn’t beat Trump (i.e., she dind’t get anyhting from debating), and HRC was a much better debater than Harris is.
Ok, who had “The GOP (or the Kremlin) will attack Harris on her birth?”
Because of course- within minutes.
Quick Take
Kamala Harris, former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate, is eligible to serve as U.S. president, contrary to the false claims of viral posts on Facebook. Her mother is from India and her father from Jamaica — but Harris was born in Oakland, California.
##### Full Story
Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, announced on Twitter on Aug. 11 that his vice presidential running mate is California Sen. Kamala Harris.
But multiple…Facebook posts… falsely claim that — in the event Biden is unable to serve out his term –Harris is ineligible to serve as president because she’s an “anchor baby” whose parents are immigrants.
I think this is nonsense. Pence made Tim Kaine look weak and futile and absorbed everything incoming. Possibly that was Kaine’s fault, but Pence didn’t get knocked off his game once in the VP debate.
That was before Pence had a “record” to run on. And no, Kaine didn’t do so well. I do put that on Kaine more than Pence and never thought Kaine was an inspired pick for Clinton.
The minute you squeeze Pence off his talking points, he’s got nowhere to go. I’ve watched him fall apart in television interviews.
I think Harris will have him on the ropes in short order. I guess we’ll see.
I strongly dislike her, but it’s not like there’s anything I can do about it. Vote for Biden, and hope he makes it through the next four years.
Pence was defending a pussy grabbing racist, and did quite well at it. His ice-cold grandpa act, accusing the interlocutor of making shit up isn’t half bad and buried Kaine.
Cite? Would love to see the man wet his pants on TV.
Sorry, no specific recollection of where or when. I just remember it made me smile to see it. I’ll spend some time searching though, and if I find it, I’ll post it.
ETA: I think it was when he was being questioned about Flynn “lying” to him, when it was known that Pence was well aware of Flynn’s assurances to Sergey Kisliyak re Russian sanctions.
While true, I was salivating more for Duckworth. You just know that Trump would not have been able to keep himself from saying something flip like “I prefer soldiers who don’t lose their legs”. And it’s not like people would be coming out of the woodwork to Swiftboat her. Well they would have. But it wouldn’t have worked.
Just heard the following - from an acquaintance who isn’t especially reliable in such things:
- Harris was quick to express support of Jussie Smollett’s story - and never withdrew that, even as the evidence for it collapsed.
- Harris said she believes and supports the women who accused Biden of sexual assault / harassment.
Are these valid?
I don’t know. Maybe look into it if you care to. But I have an acquaintance who claims the opposite. Is he right?
These are popping up all over conservative news sites like flies within hours of the announcement. Pre-programmed Republican attacks, essentially (I’m sure they had a set prepared for every serious contender). Quick google shows that Harris did indeed express disappointment in the turn in the Smollett story so, yep - that one is bullshit.
Nor am I surprised at the other. During the recent Reade fiasco she was very careful to moderate herself, which was the safe way to go.
These sort of gossipy accusations are a.) pretty irrelevant and b) should be taken with a 10 lb bag of salt. It’s a targeted attempt to sow chaos and are to be expected.
This is true, although it was said in April 2019 in the context of several allegations of unwanted or inappropriate touching by Biden – about a year before the Tara Reade allegations. On that, Harris said only that Reade, “has a right to tell her story.”
As you can imagine, Fox News is already highlighting these statements.
Being a senator from California seems like a very big deal to me. A senator can influence the nation for decades. I do not see why anyone would give that up to be the veep, or even president.
But then again I got no ambition.
The office of president trumps ( no relation) senator, even of California, any day if you’re an ambitious pol. There is no higher aspiration - it is literally the brass ring that gets you firmly ensconced in the history books for better or worse.
Veep in of itself is not better than CA senator, I’d agree. It’s generally a low profile, low power job. In a recent editorial Harris’ old flame Willie Brown urged her to turn down any offer and instead ask for a more active job like AG. However the VP is the best job if you aspire to eventually challenge for the Big Job, so it is a good choice if you are ambitious at all.
Harris is not even remotely guaranteed the nomination in 4 or 8 years if Biden wins. But she would be the presumptive front runner and that helps a lot.
What is the name recognition today of Vice President Mike Pence compared to that of Governor Mike Pence four years ago?
