We’d just call James Bond.
Wow, is that like wishing on hundreds of thousands of people?
Good, because “Four thousand and one holes…” wouldn’t scan.
Cool!!!
Finally, beachfront property here in West Virginia!
Dude, go back and check your history book. Check American Revolution and you will notice that most of it was fought on American soil. You might also check the War of 1812. Much of it was fought on American soil as well.
Technically not. It wasn’t American soil until after the Revolution.
Nonsense; I’m sure UNIT"s scientific advisor is already on the job.
PS Wee addendum to the above about Santorini and the Minoans – that was 15th century BC.
Before that it was the injuns.
And they’d like it back so they could set up more casinos.
don’t hurt me.
I wish there were couple of volcanos ready to blow up in the USA
#1 -under the White House
#2 -Hollywood
#3 -NY stock exchange.
I wish there was a fourth one. Guess where?
BTW, “couple” means two. Exactly two. No more, no less.
I’ve never heard anyone pronounce the second c in Connecticut. FTR, I’ve never actually been to Connecticut, but I did grow up on Connecticut Street in San Francisco. So there you go.
The s in Illinois is silent (Ill-uh-NOY).
Maryland is prounced Merralin.
And finally, I am positive that I have mentioned on these very boards that I have a phobia about tsunamis. And yet you bring them up again! WHY WHY WHY? Don’t you know I will have nightmares about horribel space rocks crashing into Lake Michigan???
nonpolar, I thought your recent pit threads had been a bit of an eye opener for you. Perhaps you ought to re-read our rules, as well as forum descriptions?
In other words, watch your step.
But wouldn’t it be concidered American soil once the Declaration of Independence was signed? Because at that point, we said it was our own soil…but it doesn’t matter what we say, if Britain didn’t say it was American soil, then it isn’t. I guess it could go either way.
But the War of 1812 was on American soil. We’ve established that (unless there’s something nobody told me).

Sorry about that Chief. :smack:
2004 - 1949 = 55 years
200 - 55 = 145 years (best case scenario)
FUCK!
Talking about blood shed on American soil, what about Pearl Harbor 12/7/1941? Granted it was not part of the United States per se but someone mentioned the Aleutian Islands and I thought this would also be applicable.
As for destroying the large chunk of land in the Canary Islands before it crashes into the water?
This is the SDMB and shouldn’t the logical choice be … ahem … 1920’s Style Death Rays ?
Seriously, I live in Boston and was wondering if the tidal wave would cause that much damage here. People have failed to mention that between the Canary Islands and Boston, Massachusetts is that strip of land named Cape Cod. Wouldn’t that take the majority (if not all) of the tidal wave’s impact before it hit Boston?
It’s not just the Atlantic shores that are at risk. Some months ago, the newspapers covered some geologists’ report on the possibility of a BIG landslide out in Monterey Bay, and the projected tsunami.
IIR, it will/might be on the order of 50 meters and annihilate a couple million people and their buildings, mostly in Monterey-Santa Cruz-Half Moon Bay-San Francisco and environs.
So if there are two threats, are there more? There’s a lot of ocean in this world.
If it makes a difference, the last eruption was 1971,
