big heads

the whole thing with some people having big, huge heads. is that hereditary or what? and if its not hereditary how can someone with a big head make it smaller, or decrease the mass or whatever whats the straight dope on this topic?

There are various reasons for “Big” heads.
If an otherwise normal adult has a normally shaped, but larger than average head, its probably normal. Nothing can change that. Its no different than people who have big feet, or are very tall.
It would be dangerous for a surgeon to actually remove bone to make a normal head smaller.
Sometimes, one’s head might just be appear large, because of other features, like one’s ears, or a high forehead. A plastic surgeon can correct that sort of thing.

On the other hand, some children are born with various defects that don’t allow the fluid that protects the brain to circulate normally.
It collects inside the skull, pushing the soft infant bones outward. This is something that has to be corrected or the child could be very mentally delayed or even die.
